Serious? The Doctor who prescribed Prexum Plus for me is a keen cyclist himself. Would be rather shocking if he prescribed a banned substance.

Maybe Im a doper and I didnt even know it!

Well I guess it depends. If you are a recreational cyclist then I can't see a problem. The Doc prescribed those meds for a reason. Normally they see you a week after to see if the pill did work and all that and follow up. He probably saw you where cycling for fun (your Hub name "Vetseun" ), hence pre-scribed the best meds on the market for you.

In any case any advantage gained would be minimal at our level.

And just how high was it?

I remember back when I was a student scampering around a lab looking for a meter that went over 250mm HG.... think my classmate (who is well known in SA sports medicine) nearly had a nervous breakdown when his test subject went that high - thanks to making him walk up a couple of flights of stairs... and down again.. and could not get a reading... :)

Sjo  Walking heart attack. Hoping he had the paramedics on standby!

The highest that the pharmacist measured was in the region of 195/120

I actually found out about my high bp after joining the gym. They tested it before I started and advised me that it was high and that I should have it checked out. Tested it every day when I went to gym and after a while thought that maybe their machine was defective and then decided to go to the pharmacy across the road. Their measure was even higher than the gym's machine's measure. After I saw that the diet and exercize was effective I just kept on monitoring it myself. Now very happy about the results, and feeling better than ever.

Ps. all measures was taken before exercise.

Paramedics on standby.... er..... NO... :) but there was a defibrillator close.... and plenty of people who know how to use it.. I wish I could remember how high his lipids etc were - I just remember them being insanely high... and he was only mid 30's - ex Boland rugby prop.

195/120.... think If I had been the pharmacist, I would have called for a stretcher...

Why not try a natural diuretic at first and look at a lower salt intake diet. Was your blood pressure reading taken once off or was that reading you quoted an average? As far as your cholesterol also goes consider some supplements to lower that as well. Oats regularly as breakfast, Omega 3/6 supplements and garlic capsules daily have helped me keep my cholesterol below 4. I resorted to using Simvastatin for 3months once just to get it below 5 and then stuck to supplements ever since. Fennel tea with cinnamon and honey is also a regular drink.

He did take the measure 3 times to make sure. Then advised to go see the doctor...........which I didn't

And to top it all I was 27years old at the time

Well.... maybe you should see one occasionally... :) Seriously... at least a cardiac workup... just to be sure there is nothing to worry about...

My doc tied a machine to my arm. I wore it for 24 hours and it took readings every 45 minutes.

Problem was that every time I heard this thing blow up, I knew I had to relax and that made me stress even more!

In the end I had 2 options.... Go on chronic medicine or give up the HUB.

My dosage was reviewed and increased last week.

I dont know, my cardiologist told me your blood pressure changes all the time, he says one reading is not enough like they do at these "Quick check" places, plus many people suffer from "White coat syndrome" which can effect it as well.

Some years ago my GP took my BP and it was 140/100, I was 50 odd at the time, he told me to go see a cardiologist. The Cardiologist was great, he put me through a whole series of tests and told me to wear a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours.

When the results were in he told me the monitor showed a different average reading and overall I was within normal range which was 130/90 for my age. He checked my cholesterol and said overall, its okay but "Orange lights" were flashing and he would put me on a mild cholesterol / BP tablet called "Caduet 5/10" he also put me on Ecotrin and told me to take it for the rest of my life, when I asked why, he said it just does so much good and very little bad, it sounded fine to me, I hope to live a long time so thats what I do and I have been on this now for well over 8 years and my cholesterol is 3.9 and steady and my BP still average of 130/90.

Every now and then I'll go to the doc for something and my BP will be high when he takes it, once I went and it was 160 /100 my Doc nearly fainted, but I see the cardiologist every two years and wear the belt and he forwards the info to my Doc, last time was in May 2013 and it shows all is good, average 130/90 .

Just a long winded way of saying go see a professional specialist who can advise you and take their advice.

Your probably right. I have the benefits on my medical aid, might as well use them.

At least if they put me on a treadmill now and tell me to run I will be able to run longer than 2min.

I just hate pills/medicine and the thought of having to take pills every day for the rest of my life scares me. Will probably not be able to avoid it for the rest of my life though.

Cool, will make an appointment and have it checked out.

Everybody feels that way in the beginning I think, at least I did as well. But you get used to it and now its like part of my day, I dont even think about it anymore, its almost automatic, its amazing how we adapt.
