Santa Cruz Tallboy 2

Tankman

Recommended Posts

I am starting to look at various options for a 29 er with real proper stuff (xtr and the like) trying as close to 10 kg as possible, how likely to achieve with this frame?

Very Likely!

This bike with XT groupset, alloy handlebar, stem and seatpost came in at 10.6kg

The wheelset is Mavic Crossmax SLR at 1440g, not much to gain here but with XTR and carbon components, you will be smiling! :D

I agree, from a practical piont it is much easier.

Given, the routing on something like a Spez does look nice but those jobs that normally took 5min can quickly turn into 45min job :(

And for R33k it's not worth spending an extra 40 minutes on the perfect finish?

If it was up to me I would spend a week with these bikes ... perfecting the build but the clients come knocking waaay before then! ;)

It is not the initial 40min that is the problem, it is those 40min you sukkel at home or after a stage or when you quickly want to replace cables, that's the pain

So much attention to suspension and geometry, so little attention to finish.

It astounds me that neither Santa Cruz nor Cannondale have taken to internal cable and hose routing, instead sticking ugly cables and hoses on the outside of otherwise provocatively beautiful frames.

Whilst internal routing does look good, it can be a pain in the butt.

I think for external routing and attention to detail, Lapierre gets it right...

Cable guides (look way better than cable ties of those black plastic clips that alway fall off

Again, careful routing to minimize cable rub

Rear deraileur protective plate.

So yeah, I know this is a thread about Santa Cruz... just saying, with some thought, these upper market manufacturers can add some great litte details

Yeah, for dropper posts...

I was thinking more along the lines of brakes though.

Both those are awsome machines. Used to have a zesty 514, awesome bike.

Now on a LTC as I had a 29er itch. Have to say If I could afford it I would want both. Oh yeah, and a 27.5 something , I mean if u have money to burn, why hold back.
