Cameras notoriously ruin perspective of size, height etc. This gap is nuts. Not only the launch and gap, but the landing into berm is steeeeep! Count me impressed!

Ja that thing is way beyond my testicular threshold.

Nice work ... yes you are going slow on the clip, yet still about 60 x faster than me.

The work being done on these trails are not going unnoticed based on conversations I have had with riders

Hey guys... is there more than one DH line? I was on the trail for the first time today and only rode the DH line that was used in the WPDH race earlier in the year. I saw a couple of other guys shuttling to the top, but they never came down the same line as me. Where were they coming down? Cheers!

There's another line on the Spanish farm side but that is NOT part of Steilte Trails and is illegal as far as I know. That was probably he Neehlings and Adi you saw shuttling.

The current line is totally rideable on trail mikes with a bit more travel than the normal XC bikes. All the major jumps have safer lines or are just rollable (i.e. ride over them without air).

Bottom line is the trail is a gnarly as you want it to be. Some of the gaps are insane, but you can just roll past them. The step down I pooped on is actually rollable at a snail's pace, but I just failed so hard.

Exactly what we need more of in Gauteng. Hopefully some new will spring up soon.

This thread has gone quiet for a while but I spoke to Jan on the weekend and there are some SUPER exiting developments happening.

Jan, Jonty Neethling, Andrew Neethling and 2 local business men have formed a cc around the Steilte trails. Jonty is going to be employed as a full time trail builder. Andrew is going to be lending his reputation towards the project and the 2 business men are helping out with money and negotiating land access with the local farmers.

They are busy cutting new lines at the moment and as soon the sprinklers get turned on Jonty will start building features. The idea is that in addition to the current DH track there will be another 2 DH lines. One will be an A Liine style track with loads and loads of tables and sculpted berms. The other DH will be an Andrew Neethling "signature" dh track. Rough and Gnarly. There will also be multiple enduro lines and 2 short xc loops of 10km and 20km. There are also plans for a skills park with jumps, drops and ladder bridges.

The planned opening of the park is November. So I wouldn't go out and buy that HT 29er just yet. It's definitely an exiting time to be a mountain biker in the Cape.

Dare I use the words? Bike Park!

Exciting times to be a MTBer in the Cape indeed. I hope the shuttle roads can survive the increase in traffic this is sure to bring, one or two of those corners are already pretty loose getting up there. Imagine a lift running shuttles up Helderberg...

Someone may or may not have already started sourcing the funds for a 4x4 shuttle vehicle and 10 bike trailer...........
