Explain to me why if there is a Cyclelab in JHB and Centurion, why we can only pickup the numbers for Ride 4 Sight at the jhb branch? Surely they can do something like a tickbox on the entry that says where you want to pick your number up, like they do with the Amashova.

Logistics, logistics, logistics.......

But yes, great idea.

Over the last weekend, there was a mini expo at Emporers....... hardly anybody collected their numbers from there because first of all you have to pay a R10 entrance fee and then find a parking (these gamblers are early morning people) and then trek 10km's to collect your number. Guys went rather to Cycle Lab which was more convenient.

Keep in mind it is the organisers who decide where they want the numbers to be picked up.

On the agreement between the organisers and Cyclelab for a specific race, the organisers have to complete the part of where registration will take place.

Good idea, got stuck on the Diepsloot road yesterday.  <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I am seriously starting to consider skipping races who?s numbers collect cost me two hours off work and the frustration of JHB traffic.

I remember for some of the drifter races we attended you could collect your number either at FPC in PTA on the Tue/Wed or at FPC JHB Thu/Fri or something like that.

That could work no?

If I am not mistaken the registrations for Carnival City is both at centurion and fourways. Cent on Wed and Fourways on thurs.

Possibly something they are looking at going forward

Not sure whether this is a feature of all races but I seriously forgot to collect my race number for the FAST ONE a few weeks ago. In a mild panic I went to the start early and to my relief there was a little desk with a box with all the uncollected numbers. The lady was very helpful and it seemed as if this was pretty standard.

Maybe they don't want everyone to do this but surely it's reasonable for people who live out of 'town' to just collect them on the race morning?

Just take someone to attache the number otherwise (like I had to) you'll have to remove your shirt exposing your pasty flesh to the world...Smile

Now that everyone has to licence, why not have a system that your licence also gets you a number for the season? Far simpler & less hassle all round, less cost to organisers, less time wasted by competitors etc etc etc. If running and caneing can get it right, cycling should be able to as well.

So this will be a permanent number which you will keep for the year, how do the orgs who carry the costs etc then know that you have entered their race and not just turned up for it. One way is to link your race entry to your chip which could work except some races dont time while some cyclists could not care for their time to be recorded as they have computers.

Besides even in running you need a perm/temp ASA number PLUS the race day one.

Annual number will not work in cycling. Running you get annual number BUT still have to pre enter the bigger races or pay penalty morning of the race and get issued with ANOTHER number to pin on chest or running pants which has to be handed in at end of race for two reasons. 1 to prove you are legal in race and two to obtain race results and handout at end of tunnel. Have you been to race registration at Two Oceans or Comrades similar to 94.7 and Argus Expo.

What makes running seem easier is that several running shoe stores take entries on behalf of the organizers and hand your race number to you at the till point when you enter and pay, others you do same as Cycle lab and collect on given days.

Why not have someone checking entries in the start pens ....... if you haven't paid, they take your number away and there's a fine if you want to get it back.

Half the reason why I don't bother pre-entering races is because I have yto go to Pshyco Lab to get the numbers.

So why not just enter on the line. but last week I was told by a marshal/official at emperors that there were no line entries then someone else told me this week that there was.

A number issued with a licence would work much better than the current system ........... cant we set up a poll, or what does cycle SA say?
