Katusha is very tentative about his inclusion

I reckon it'll happen

Does the course suit him though?

Enough steep gradients? Haven't really looked yet

I read that he will focus on Vuelta but its still early days.

Not to hand. Its covered in a number of articles in cycling mags around last years TDF. He also stated it publically in a televised interview after one of the stages last year.

Sorry I can't be of more help Dale. I read quite a few cycling publications and cannot recall the specific titles or issues.

I do recall further that on the issue of cycling in his youth he was effusive about learning all his cycling in Kenya (he named the person who assisted him greatly). No mention made of the time spent in South Africa or his cycling here.

Clearly his handlers have provided a version for public consumption and he is sticking to the script.

David Kinja, from the Ngong hills Kenya.

Nope

He is tailspinning and is not due to make any impression

Top 20 would be quite exceptional

His career is in trouble as his contract is ending and there isn't much to show for the last 3 years.

I am open to a massive surprize

Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a support car as a trainee DS, come this time next year...

Well I agree with you and him. He is not South African and technically is a brit from Kenya. It will be a very South African thing to roast him about this. Maybe hard for some to believe but everybody does not want to be a "proudly Suf Efrican"

I agree totally. I have no problem with his stance at all. We are free to choose our allegiances and I will gladly consider as South African anyone who throws his lot in with us, whether born here or not. Froome, for many sound reasons, says he is a Brit. I can respect that, but he is not South African.

Fully concur. Andy should've been a great cyclist and widely revered for his achievements.

Sadly he'll be remembered as a great potential that never got to be fully realised.

Velonews reporting that Purito is 'poised' to race TDF next month.

“He returned to train [last] week, and we’ll decide soon,” Ekimov said. “If he does the Tour, it will be to try to win a stage, and prepare for the Vuelta a España.”

i still feel they should put a steel fence / barrier up

Wont happen in a million years. The fans would simply move it or jump over it. Point 1 is there simply are not enough Gends to enforce it like upper slopes and point 2 the passion of the fans wont allow it. I have shot a few grand tours for publications and again this year and unless you have been to one you have no idea how much passion and love there is for this sport in Europe. When adults cry when the tour finishes you know its a special race and no amount of fencing will keep them back. Its the atmosphere man, the juices of the race that get people and adrenalin pumping

Passion is not a good enough reason to endanger lives, ruin a cyclists stage or even worse tour cause you want 2 seconds of fame. Surely if you passionate about something you want it to be a success?

I still stand by my statement.

J Rod IN!!!

And

Carlos Betancur is suffering with the citalomegavirus and so will not return to Europe in time to compete in this year's Tour de France according to his mentor and Colombian national coach Franco Gini.

From what I've been reading, the only sickness Betancur has is home sickness. Every time he finishes a big race and heads back home, he bunks the next scheduled races in Europe, his team can't get hold of him, he doesn't return any calls, reneges on his commitments, etc. From what I've been reading about him recently, I'm struggling to stay a fan. And I've been a big fan until now.

Not a MEGAVIRUS!!!!! Darn, that is a good excuse. (M)andy should use that.
