You signature explains your ignorance.

Shimano had the best brakes when disk brakes hit the MTB market.

Their XT's were unrivaled and it took many manufacturers a long time to catch up to them.

The next step was Magura, those original Louis and Marta brakes were superb.

They all seem to go through their phases., if there is one thing however Shimano have been pretty constant with, it is their brakes.

Oh Wyatt, why don't you dry up. Or don't i have your permissiom to make you feel inferior. Every single post against a product or tongue in cheek chirp that is made on this forum, and we can be sure you will be there armed full of rhetoric. HTF died and made you the god of knowledge on all things cycling. Or is it because your ownly mission in life is to get your post rate to over 30 thousand.

It's getting boring....go ride your bike

Feeling a bit stupid ?

Sorry man, it happens at times.

Look , let me put it to you like this, your signature leaves you open to abuse, your lack of knowledge just adds spark to the flame.

Pads lasted forever, they had killer stopping power and braided hoses.

The only thing I did not appreciate was that they were IS mount, I still have nightmares recalling how I would sit with a bike, flashlight and a container of washers to centre brakes.

Maybe you should first find out just how much knowledge i Lack before calling me stupid.

Giving you a new mission in life is my pleasure all be it a very shallow one, i tried to think of one a bit more challenging, but with your small brain i thought this one would be enough for you to handle.

Is there any reason to buy a Shimano brake above an SLX? Serious question. I use them on my beater and they're probably the best brakes I've owned (disclaimer: haven't owned a lot of brakes). Fit 'em and forget. How much more benefit do you get from moving up to XT, XTR, etc?

SLX is good (I've had two sets), but XT definitely has more bite, a slightly better feel (the whole "modulation" thing), and is lighter.

As with most bike parts, weight is a large part of the "better" equation though.

The XTs and SLXs are pretty closely priced, diminishing returns though, surely, when you start moving up to XTR, etc?
