The next step was Magura, those original Louis and Marta brakes were superb.They all seem to go through their phases., if there is one thing however Shimano have been pretty constant with, it is their brakes. SLX is good (I've had two sets), but XT definitely has more bite, a slightly better feel (the whole "modulation" thing), and is lighter.
