I'm going from a Trance 26er(alu) that is is fairly light, if I want light I will ride my carbon hardtail, I want something that can take a beating and give me a beating at the same time when I'm in " I think I can mode  " .

Frame, fork & wheels in order of importance, I can change components way down the line if need be. Always wanted a Cruz though

Would there be any change left I did go the Cruz route for a wheel upgrade at purchase time?

Hey if i could afford the SC id get it and worry about upgrades later :D

But ya idk.. if i had 20+ liquid right now ....im just saying

Nope. Not likely at all, with aluminium frames coming in at north of R 20k incl shock.

Nowhere near the value you'd get from the Trance.

I can't seem to find anywhere that the tells me what the Cruzez come with in terms of specs in SA, or is it rather custom built to the frame?

What I did find on the overseas sites as a fully built bike, little needs to be upgraded anyway.

Deffo the Pyga or if you really want a good trail bike (aka can look at all wheel sizes, it's about the bike):

- Yeti: any of them are mind blowing but a ARC would be insane 26ers are going at stupid prices and are still killer bikes

- Orange 5: Still untouchable on the trail. still voted constantly as best trail bike. best bike I've ever owned (again and again)

Others

- Whyte T-129 (not sure what it would go for over here)

- zesty 514

- anthemx29

- there were a few rocky mtn specials on the hub classifieds recently for under R30K

and there are some great special on CRC at the moment with 60% off (easily cover taxes) on a range of rides.

So many options. What a great dilema.

CRC are having specials on the 2013 Nukeproof Mega right now that are simply mind blowing.

R10.5k for a Mega with a Monarch

and R13k for a Mega with a CCDB

Yes they're merely 26ers but that's still a ridiculous price.

I wanna try the bigger wheels(follow the herd, lol), see what all the hype is about. I've been wanting to go the 650b route for a couple years now, so this seems to be the right time.

Ja. I think for your budget the Trance is winner. The 2 dudes I know who have them absolutely rave about them. I doubt you'll be able to come in under 30k for the PYGA. Just the frame and fork will put you deep into the 20's. So unless you gave a bike you can canabalise or a garage full of spares Trance is the boy.

I'm thinking the same thing, as much as I would love to have the other, i need to be realistic. I was chatting to someone yesterday that may be able to get me a Santa Cruz at a great price, so will wait until Monday for this.

Otherwise the Trance seems to be the way to go, with a new wheelset and dropper post as add ons, I can still come in at under R30K with change for a couple other upgrades -ie brakes & crankset.

HOLD THE FKING PHONE.

Trail & Tar have Rocky Mountain Altitudes for 32k. Squeeze a little for a dropper to be thrown in or some discount so you can hook up a dropper and you'll be laughing.

There's a blue one that like a matt blue. Much nicer than the commencal blue and there's a red one. Stunning bikes no upgrades required.

I had a look at a Stumpy yesterday as well, nice bike but not sure of the 29er wheels for trail bike though. I dreamt about the Santa Cruz last night funnily enough.

Mark - just a heads up. No way you'll get a full santa build for less than 30k unfortunately. Their frame and shock alone comes to more than 20k. Then there's the fork et al. Unless you port parts over.. even then it'll be a stretch.
