They have sued any company for coming up with designs that even remotely resembles a horse link (name intentionally change to avoid patent infringement)

you need to be shouting that from the top of an ice cream shop before they'll notice you using the word horst.

I'm with the small guy here, BUT there's a lot of violin music in that article. Shop has been open for 9 months. both sides have done this the wrong way - reckon they will meet halfway.

Thanks to SH*t like this I will NEVER buy any Specialized products.

I guess Epic Bike Shop would be their next target.

Heaven help anyone who can spell Specialised correctly..

**** bike anyway Over hyped corporate trinket

I was waiting for GoLefty! to climb in. His vendetta against Specialized is a rather hilarious.

but i don't see them taking on Kevin over the Cape Epic trademark, (or the Epic bike shop for that matter)..pretty sure they had the bike name first, but that would be a silly move.

That should not stand up in a court of law. The name Roubaix is not a proprietary name since it existed long before the bike company came into being. This is Specialised after something else. Like maybe the property the Cafe Roubaix is situated in so they can open one of those gharstly concept stores

The problem is the bike shop would have to pay to defend and with these types of thing it's always the guy with the most $ that wins.

Only in the USA, the most litigious country in the universe.

Alberta is in Canada. But ja. The patent probably covers the American continent. I think they sometimes work like that. It seems somewhat retarded to patent the word Roubaix in cycling. That's like patenting the word Tomato in agricultural products.

Its funny reading about this because I watched Klunkerz for the first time this week, in the film its very clear that specialized stole the first stumpjumper frame design from Tom Ritchey, Specialized took a complete Ritchey frame over to Japan and had thousands of copies made, I mean come on! What a w*nker brand.

Never heard of that doccie.

Sounds interesting.

Looks more like a case of logo theft than the word Roubaix.

Specialized use that type of font and logo for a lot of their marketing stuff and is also a very well known logo to anyone who has been to SBCU.

Personally I think he took a gap and try to build a bit of an association by creating his shop logo the way he did and as a listed company they patent most of their marketing material to protect their brand.

I don't think the shop owner is being transparent and knowing how Specialized operate, I would even go as far as to say they are possibly only going down this road because he pulled a harregat move after they approached him.

I don't think he is the big victim that he is being made out to be.
