Wow. 17 hours total time. That very quick compared to the December 400.

Just heard, the first man home did 1630. That's 3h30 faster than we did the 400 in December. The good news is that roughly the same group will be doing next month's 600. It'll be nice to have such a strong group. Now I just have to hang on!

On that note, I better get my ass into gear, and do a Lido booking, and an entry.

Planning on doing at least a 200 as a wake up call for the Transbaviaans. Will keep an eye out and join when i can.

Interesting. Once the 600 is done my next focus is Transbaviaans - bit of variety on the MTB before needing to think about PBP qualifiers

I have done a number of 200's, but may be interested in going longer.

For the 600km coming up in March, how many hours will need to be ridden in the dark. Let's say you ride at about 25km/h.

When you return to the Lido, how many hours sleep are you likely to get before heading off again and at what time would you suggest leaving?

It's always risky to make too firm a plan for a long Audax - you have to be ready to adapt and be flexible. Having said that, the rough plan I had in mind was something like this:

17 to 18 hrs for the first leg - that puts you back at the Lido between 8 and 9pm.

Eat and sleep - approx 3 or 4 hours

Back out on the road between 11pm and 1am.

Say 12 to 14 hours for the 2nd leg

So a riding time of 29 to 32 hrs, and an overall time of 32 to 36 hrs.

Looking at the Nov 600, the guys rode 34:50 I think - which would be slap bang on for this, so I'd reckon weather and mechanicals permitting you could be looking at 35 or less. Could be way less if you're fast - which I'm not, especially on the longer rides.

There's an oft quoted adage in Audax - if you're tired and short of time, take a 35 to 40 min power nap. It's enough to refresh. If you have time, aim at 2 to 3 hrs, but no more. Once you go beyond 40 mins, you hit REM sleep, you need to work that cycle through which runs +/- 2.5 hrs for most people. Any more than that is wasted time.

Oh - and if you're not tired - you should be riding ;)

All the above seems to work for me as well - so it can't just be hot air!

See the March 600 will be run over the Sat and Sun (22nd/23rd). Was hoping for a 21st/22nd combo (Friday the 21st is a public holiday). Can we get the dates changed?

Must say, I was planning for longer sleep on the Sat night. Only to start at 04h00-ish on Sunday morning. The Nigel CP only closes at 06h00.

Watch for more emails on the date. The 3 of us coming from the cape have flights already booked based on published schedule of 21st. In discussion to keep to the original schedule.

Yep - def possible to sleep longer. Being a slower rider I'm a bit more of a pessimist on over sleeping and not being able to catch up the time

Would just like to check a point of protocol for the Jozy rides.

I have mudguards, but wasn't planning on fitting them for this ride. Figured a change of clothes at end of Leg 1 will be waiting, and truck stops aren't likely to care if we look a little grubby.

Don't want to make myself unpopular in a bunch though if you guys ride with them to keep the road spray on other riders down.
