why not try the Suunto Ambit?

Same reason I won't try Mercedes, guess we all become brand loyal.

I will maintain this, if you want cool gadgets, buy anything else on the market, if you want a fitness and training coach, get a Polar.

I have the RCX5 too but i tend to favour the suunto. One good thing about Polar is their local backup... Its brilliant, haven't had a issue with any of my Suunto watches as yet but i hope i will not be disappointed. I guess its like you say, everybosy becomes brand loyal in the end.

I'm resistant to change, been using polar ever since heart rate training became popular. I like their training software and am used to it, don't want to start fiddling with a new software package etc.....

But I admit polar and their bs with different chest straps and not being compatible with other polar products is pushing me to the limit.... I wonder if this V800 things strap will work with older polar products i.e. CS range bike computers...??

No it wont. Only the H7 is forward compatible with the V800, so as to facilitate submerged HR monitoring. Polar will be introducing new cadence, speed and power sensor utilizing bluetooth. bloody flipping marvellous.

Sometimes I really think that those Finnish dudes drink to much Finlandia vodka and run out of brain cells...

I think (hoping) the H7 strap might be compatible with most of the CS bike computers

Interesting! i Dint know that Polar was also Finnish... I went to the Suunto Factory in Helsinki last year, unfortunately there is no price saving buying directly from them

Must say been using my new RCX5 GPS for a few days now and it's pretty good so far!!

It really is a great product, the G5 sensor is so small that it really doesn't cause any inconvenience, in a way i think that its better to have a separate GPS sensor because then you can keep the watch slimline like the RCX5

Valid point regarding watch size, but where do u keep the gps sensor while swimming (I suppose you don't have to swim with it) but then during a race its another thing to think about i.e. during transitions to put it into a pocket.. and then if you have different running to cycling kit remember to transfer it...

Integrated gps is the way to go, apart from the size which to be honest is not to bad (not to big) with the newer watches

It comes with a neat arm pouch ;)

I like this thread, even though I'm a Garmin guy.

Don't know if my settings are just not right, but I don't have the option to add GPS to the swimming profile. I did wonder about it as DC Rainmaker said in his review of the RCX5 that he swam with it.

When biking, I put the arm pouch on my aero bars. I too like the RCX5 for the compact watch which I often wear as a day to day one. I always look at the Garmins and can help but thinking that the few added features really isn't worth having that knob on my arm while training/racing...

Have you tried swimming with it.. the pouch :whistling:

Hehehe no I haven't actually ;)

I only swim at gym so no good there anyhow :)
