Will SuperSport be televising the Tour of Flanders?

It appears not, nor the Paris Roubaix next weekend... Streaming via the internet is the way to go.

One step away from slotting DSTV for good... and telling the Mrs that Netflicks doesn't have Greys Anatomy, at all, ever.

I hear you hey!

Netflix and Hulu are superb (apart from the fact that as you correctly pointed out, they contain too many days worth of Greys) and nowadays it's possible to stream most any sporting event via the net.

I'm sure Paris-Roubaix will be on Supersport. I recall Gerald de Kock saying something about covering the ASO races when Milan-San Remo wasn't shown live.

Ahh... So you are saying that I should only cancel my DSTV in two weeks time? ^_^

If the ASO races are all on then don't forget about Fleche Wallone and Liege-Bastogne-Liege at the end of April.

HAHA good point.

Actually, the Paris Roubaix was the race last year that had us causing a big scene on The Hub and social networks after Supersport had planned to not broadcast it live. Thereafter they "changed their mind" at the last minute and showed it on the Blitz channel.

Also checked now. Looks like it will on SS8, starting at 13:00.

Remember the uproar created last year on FB and Twitter when SS decided not to show it live?

Well we got our way!

The Tour of Flanders celebrates its 101st anniversary with the 98th edition this Sunday.

This 98th edition will not see the Mur de Grammont make its comeback, since it was removed from the race route in 2012, but it keeps the principles of last year's race route with the start on the Market in Brugge, a first part of the race route which is almost in a straight line down towards the French border. Going to the finish city Oudenaarde (the finish city of the Tour of Flanders since 2012), the riders get to the climbs which don't leave a moment of rest in the final part of the race.

The 17 climbs which will be climbed in 2014 are a little bit different from 2013:

  1. Oude Kwaremont - 2200m - 4% (max 11.6%) - 1500m of cobbles
  2. Kortekeer
  3. Eikenberg - 1200m - 5.2% (max 10%) - 1200m of cobbles
  4. Wolvenberg - 645m - 7.9% (max 17.3%)
  5. Molenberg - 463m - 7% (max 14.2%) - 300m of cobbles
  6. Leberg - 950m - 4.2% (max 13.8%)
  7. Valkenberg - 540m - 8.1% (max 12.8%)
  8. Kaperij - 1000m - 5.5% (max 9%)

(feeding zone)
  1. Kanarieberg - 1000m - 7.7% (max 14%)
  2. Oude Kwaremont - 2200m - 4% (max 11.6%) - 1500m of cobbles
  3. Paterberg - 360m - 12.9% (max 20.3%)** - 360m of cobbles
  4. Koppenberg - 600m - 11.6% (max 22%) - 600m of cobbles
  5. Steenbeekdries - 700m - 5.3% (max 6.7%)
  6. Taaienberg - 530m - 5% (max 9%) - 450m of cobbles
  7. Kruisberg/Hotond - 2500m - 5% (max 9%) - 450m of cobbles
  8. Oude Kwaremont - 2200m - 4% (max 11.6%) - 1500m of cobbles
  9. Paterberg - 360m - 12.9% (max 20.3%) - 360m of cobbles

** what's interesting to know is that the Paterberg is part of the Tour of Flanders only since 1986. Indeed, that year a farmer who was very interested by the race invited the organisor of the race to come see a track in one of his fields which he had paved himself and after this meeting, this additional climb became part of the Belgian classic.

Roubaix is televised ever year - at least the final 3 hrs or so
