So had my first real fall today, had to replace a few bits and bobs, was wondering how expensive a fall can be. And do you get fall insurance? Lol.

My 2 most expensive mis-haps - neither were falls - were being hit from behind on the road bike by a drunk driver, cost me about 5k for a new back wheel, shorts & shirt, tyre etc. never saw the driver again. And more recently, hiting first gear on a steep hill and throwing the rear mech into the wheel. 1.3k for a new 105 rear mech fitted and setup.

What about the videos you see of mtbs snapping frames etc?

Came down on a Lionman race. First fell and bent my rear der hanger. Thought I bent it back well enough. 20km later on fast rocky downhill my chain got wedged between cluster and spokes. SOLID. Came down in a spectacular implosion. Brand new Tallboy with XX. Rear triangle hardware etc. Quote was 23k if I remember correctly. Luckily I was insured. Settled for about 18-19k (I think).

Front brake caliper broke off on a downhill and jammed the disc against the fork...new bar, fork, rim and frame was pretty expensive.

I didn't have insurance at the time but do now.

Many many falls on a mountain bike resulting in multiple shoulder dislocations. Cost R40k to fix/ You do get fall insurance. It's called medical aid.

Seriously though. If your bike is a specified item, damage should be covered by the policy. Read the fine print though. If you e\were racing, you might not be covered.

Got taken out from behind during a race a few years ago coming down Ou Kaaps(roller coaster nogal) at 72km/h.3 of us involved and we were just lucky no cars were coming up at the time or it would of been tickets.Wrecked entire bike Spez SL2 Sram red ,dura ace carbon wheels.Couldn't even use the skewers on the bike.Couple of broken ribs and lost skin from my ass to my elbow.Sleeping for the next few weeks was a nightmare. At that time bike probably cost around 50K.
