If time for training is a problem, how can I best spend my time preparing for this? Would it be better doing longers distances (more time) or more steep inclines?

IDT works for me - not ideal - but a solid 1.5hr interval session definitely improves your fitness

Good chat! :whistling:

Seriously though as a first timer how hard would you lads and lasses rate the K2C? I don't get a lot of time to get out on the MTB and ride (well not as much as I want too) but I put in good sessions on the spinning bike in the gym. So while I'm at it, how does the K2C compare to like the Argus? I know they very different but regarding the overall difficulty? Also how technical is the route, or is it mostly gravel road?

Might not be the sharpest questions but let's not get the flamethrower out, I'm planning to ask many more... ;)

Argus winning time was 159 minutes and last year's K2C was completed in 181 minutes, so K2C is about 14% "tougher" based on riding time for the pro's for me it is about 40% tougher (Best Argus time of 200 minutes vs best K2C time of around 285 minutes).

Elevation is about 1800m for K2C over 96km where the Argus is about 1200 over 109 km. K2C climbs on average 18,75m per 1 km where the Argus climbs on average 11m per km. K2C is therefor 70% more climbing per km.

Mostly gravel road, but do not under estimate the high speed corners dropping down to Angie's G Spot. The Wa-pad is also quite close to the start and if you are not seeded in the first few groups expect to be held up here a bit. The key is to enjoy the vibe, particularly on your first K2C. It is a real sense of journey. You start in Uniondale and finish in Knysna, with the Argus you start in Town and finish in Green Point, so its not quite the same as crossing over from the Small Karoo to the Garden route. Both are scenic and a real treat to do at least once in your life.

The winner of the Argus did it with an ave of 41km/h. The winner of the K2C didwith an ave of about 32km/h. It is that much tougher.

Yes,the terrain is not that techinal, but do not under estimate the long , long climbs.

Me and my spouse enter for this and DR Evil, sins broken an ankle and now in final stages of recovery. So we need to get fit and strong in record time. And it’s cold out there :w00t:

Do some long hill training. You are going to spend most of yor time climbing that day. Awesome race. I'm doing my 5th one this year.

What is the best place to do some long hill training in the Durbanville area?

Meerendal, do repeats of Dorstberg, all the way from the bottopm to the top, back down on ST, rinse and repeat.. :whistling:

Just teasing.

Best is to do repeats of Malanshoogte, up and down both sides. I know it is boring, but that is about the closest and SAFEST road to do hill training on.
