Decided to do a quick 62 Km at Dischem yesterday as we did long Berge en Dale last week & doing loong Macsteel on Sunday (that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it!) :D

Couldn't help but notice the amount of ambulances screaming up & down - saw aftermath of crash not far from the start & one of my mates witnessed one of the top lady riders come down not far from the finish. Don't think I've seen so many emergency vehicles travelling to & fro in any race. Good for the victims I suppose, as help arrives quickly. Anyone else notice this?

Short off it all...bunches are to big and the riders have no bunch skills what so ever. Changing lines in corners, overlapping wheels etc....plain stupidity

No crashes in VA as far as I know, but I did hit a pool... I mean big pot hole 15km from the end which punctured both my wheels.

There were quite a few crashes in Elites too.

Had a nasty crash in CL.

In the last 100 meters the guys decided to sprint for the line, flying passed some of the slower rides.

One of the CL guys got clipped as someone went passed him and he went down very hard.

Could almost hear the skin coming off as he was sliding on the tar.

We came in at about 3:10 - 3:11 so not sure what they were sprinting for

Saw a few remains of earlier crashes on the route, then while eating my usual post ride recovery meal of boerrie roll and beer i saw one rider come down hard against the metal barrier when the guy in front sprinting for position 9999 switched his wheel.

I got taken out... was having a lekker ride till we caught another big bunch and our numbers greatly swelled. Road narrowed, all still good, but then a massive truck cruises past in the lane next to us, people freak out, narrow the group further, brakes get touched, brakes get grabbed and voilah we have chaos and riders start hitting the deck. I see this all, duck around it and hop on to the dirt - as I start to think I have dodged this bullet I get ploughed into from behind by another couple dozen riders who clearly hadn't even noticed any of this going on and somehow think squeeling like a stuffed pig is going to activate their brakes. My ass got saved by my shorts, but my elbow wasn't so lucky.

Note to self: Work on my seeding

Nothing worse than not breaking 3:10

Didn't do the race so cant talk from experience, however look at the finishing times of VA and VB there were plenty of riders all within a min of each other. Groups must have been massive

BL was mayhem.

I was chatting to my brother at the end about the crashes around me, when another BL rider rides past and said possibly over 10 crashes in BL.

I heard at least 3 and was involved in one.

72 riders from BL over the line in 1 minute, not including the VB and VC riders that had joined the main bunch.

They need to keep the bunches smaller, and start them 3 minutes apart.

A bit like Argus is doing.

Each group knows they will have to get a move on or they will get caught by the next one.
