GOOOOOO YOU BEAUTYYYY!!!

I also fall in that category......according to my SO......impulsive, not-needed-now, there-is-no-space-for-it shop-aholic. That is until a similar situation as above occurs..................MacGyver, move over. I sometimes have a spanner to fix the spanner that I am using (that is if it breaks).

Rouxster, there is a 24h at the end of March at Rosemary Hill (29-30 March). Bring your stuff and I will bring mine......5 star camping and a field bike-service centre to be proud of.

Just a suggestion....

PS: There is still that "tubeless-tyre-inflate-with-hand-pump" wager that needs to be sorted out......

Sounds like a plan tjom.

Well the OP asked for a 12V portable compressor. None of those have 25L reservoirs. But you can easily seat most tyres with a 12V compressor with a flow of higher than 120 L/min.

Aren't the high flow rate 12V ones are rather pricey?

Like around R1k and up

Yip, they are. Another thing also to consider is that the high air flow 12V compressors pull seriaaaaaas amps. You need to attach them directly to your vehicle's battery. Getting power from your lighter socket will most probably blow a fuse (usually 10A), which might mean that you are stuck without indicators, horn or even interior lighting.

Garage air to seat, 12V to top-up and maintain.

You need a compressor with at least 25l capacity

explain how some people can then only use a bomb? they are FAR from 25L volume...

I Would stay away from a dive cylinder. Unless you have the correct fitting and pressure regulator you will make a big bang.

a dive cylinder full runs at +- 200bar some at 300Bar your MTB tire 2-3Bar. putting 200bar into 2 bar is a recipe for disaster. unless you are familiar with the fittings needed I urge you to stay away.

agree!!1 The ONLY diving you'll be doing is for cover!!!

PS

It was one of those purchases that the wife went..."really? REALLY? When are you ever going to use that thing". Let me set the scene

I am very much an impulse buyer, I can walk into a builders warehouse to go and buy some chlorine and walk out with a benchsaw or hydraulic press, so when I went to outdoor warehouse I just wanted the latest getaway, but walked out with that and this mini compressor with puncture repair kit for cars....wife gave me the houtoog and really really speech...I just shrugged and went...you know me by now babes.

So picture this a week later...wife gets up on the sat morning to go and have breakfast wife her friends and some snooty snotty trendy cafe bar, I slept in...heard the garage door open, car starting...and then car got switch off...thinking she forgot her sunnies or purse I wasn't bothered. Now this is where it gets interesting...wife sees she has puncture and now refusing to admit that my impulse purchase will be handy gets the jack, wheelspanner and spare wheel out of the boot all sneaky like...cause she is now going to be hardegat and change her own tyre(she is stubborn that way). I hear spanners and tools fall on the garage floor so got up to see what's going on. Tip toeing to the garage...I hear some choice words as she tries to get jack under the car, So I position myself in the doorway without her noticing all smug like, arms folded with a smug grin on my face. When she notices me after a minute, she gave me one look and said....ok use your new toy and fix please babe....all i heard was...you are a legend.

Got my t-max out...found the nail that caused the puncture, removed it....plugged the hole and pump her tyre up in less than 10 minutes and she was off to said breakfast and skinner session

That my friends is why this little compressor is worth its weight in gold....oh and it makes tubeless conversions a breeze. Get one!!!!!!!!!!

A pomp is NOT just a pomp...ou pel??? :whistling: :whistling:

The 25l refers to the power of the compressor, the higher the figure the more air moved per minute.

uh-uh

In this case 25l (25 litres) refers to the storage capacity of the compressed air storage tank attached to the compressor.

The other value is given in l/min (litres of air flow per minute)

If you are inflating tyres from the air tank (not directly from the compressor), a 25 litre tank is more than adequate.

If you are trying to inflate directly from the compressor (and not from a holding tank) then you need a high flow rate (probably over 160 litres/min)

Fair enough - I was thinking of the one I had for camping/4x4 that indicated litres per minute.

You can make something similar to this http://www.blo-wiz.com/products using a paintball co2 tank and a remote line.

I have made a few up - cost about R600 to do - use it on a race car, but it should work on a bike tire too.... :)

Made one from an old dive cylinder, the only problem is that the local garage compressor will only do about 8 bar so it doesn't last very long.

No reputable dive shop will even give me the time of day (quite understandably  ) even if I ask them to only pump my old cylinder to 30bar.....they don't share my sense of adventure.
