Fantastic post, very interesting info - thanks!

Do you know if the corollary applies : ie - in theory, should Argus, Amashova, Tour of Durban feel easier for us Joburg warriors?

Roughly 10%. There is a whole lot more to it though. Perfect world: train short hard efforts at the coast and endurance at high level - then race at the coast.

From my layman's understanding, Jobergers win over coastal folks every time - whether the race is in Gauteng or down at sea level.

But the benefits should deteriorate steadily after getting down to the coast. For example, my assumption would be that if you want to combine a beach holiday with Amashova or Tour of Durban, rather do the race first and then have the holiday afterwards.

Either way, for us coastal folk, racing on Sunday will be like racing against a whole province full of people on EPO.

Here's a very interesting article on the effects of altitude on the body. Eish, I may as well stay at home and go surfing instead after reading this.

My son has just flown over from the UK to do the road race. He lives pretty much at sea level and on our ride in the Cradle on Sunday he struggled a bit.

I might beat him yet! ;-)

Nou wat nou? Hoe laat gaan ons begin?

5:55. Ek dink ek gaan maar agtertoe surf soos die ouens verby kom. As ek op 50km in 'n redelike tyd kom sal ek OK wees. Daai drags aan die begin is nie vir 'n vetgat soos ek nie. Jy?

There has been so much talk about how tough the end is compared to the old route, but I recon the start is going to be the thing that breaks most. The end will feel bad, but the start is where the damage is going to be done.

No just 1 for me..other plans in the afternoon unfortunately.

I also think that 1st lap is going to hurt me

Any one who does a 2nd lap did not ride hard enough the 1st time.
