I am writing this post out of my Bloemfontein hospital bed - I was knocked down by a drunken driver (hit and run) on Saturday.

My injuries are extensive (broken pelvis in 3 places, lung contusion and 2 broken lumbar vertebra). Fortunately the will damage will not be permanent.

The driver was caught later in the day. Despite being intoxicated, he also had no drivers license!!. What infuriates me the MOST, is that he was set free that same day!!

What is becoming of this wonderful country?

I appointed a lawyer to take up this matter further as it is getting ridiculous! unfortunately a single case will not do anything for awareness.

All the best with your recovery. Yes, something needs to be done about it, good place to start is creating awareness. These drivers are getting away with their lawlesness all the time, this needs to change. Please keep us posted.

"I think it's a big progress today on Jevandre Pauls , eyes are open for at least 5min , gave me a shup with his thump on my thump, even hugged a nurse, but using only his left side, still no talking , one day at a time ,Looks like our Boy is coming out acoma slowly, after our 5min interaction ,they say it will take 48h again for the response. Faith is on our side."

That was Facebook update earlier in the week. This weekend the doctors will have a much clearer idea regarding his injuries.

All positive signs though.

Sounds like this boy is doing well. Apparently started talking, using his phone and talk of him maybe getting sent home to recover this weekend. Bonitas update a week ago suggested a long rehab awaits him though.

I think the two of them was so lucky. Getting hit from behind sometimes can result in very traumatic injuries. Someone upstairs was watching over them.
