Cool, that's lovingly known as Jugg's Big One. The 10 year old kid on the 24" Commencal apparently tried to hit that on his race run and cased it, crashed, collected his thoughts and still managed a 2nd place. Flippen impressive

I saw that kid at the start and then come flying down the straight section which runs along side the jeep track, nearer the top. Was lank impressed to say the least.

Some sections of that route are quite hectic, for a 10year old it has to be quite daunting.

I got a feel for the general vibe at the start of the DH run and it was awesome, okes relaxed, joking with timing marshalls and just steadying themselves before the run. So much nicer than the start of a XC race, that is for sure.

I want to move to PMB.

pity the commissaires allowed him to race but not the other local lighties who are actually older than he was!

Good old communication issues

The kids name is Ike Klaasen from Cape Town. Definitely a name that will pop up in the future.

Yeah, Nige there were loads of communication issues & mis-information coming from CSA for the event.

  1. I read about the lighties issues on FB
  2. There was no sports class for ladies (Kath was told she had to have a full racing licence to compete)
  3. Someone from CSA told Alton (Gouws?) he had to have a full racing licence to compete (as a vet)
  4. Sean Schleubach (spelling?) there was no vet class and he had to compete as a sub-vet.

A lot of oddities. Most were sorted on the day, but if I didn't ride due to mis-information from CSA I would have been grumpy.

ya thats bull**** dude.

They really need to up their game - the XC guys have a full suite of categories but the DH guys are given a hard time ...

you only need a full domestic licence to race ELITE or JUNIOR!

The rules also state that there are Sub Vet, Vet and Masters Categories (as long as there are 5 riders to make up a category)

But then in the XC - they had a nippers class when in the UCI and CSA rules (http://www.cyclingsa.com/rules-and-regulations.aspx#41) it states that there is only a YOUTH Category - AND THERE WERE ONLY 4 riders in the class!

Come on guys get your act together and enforce your rule book evenly and fairly across the disciplines.

Cant on one day say no to one group of riders but then the next day let someone else ride as you know them.

Actually - come to think of it - I think you may need a full domestic licence to race SA Champs as a 30+ category rider.

I looked in the rule book and all it says is that you need a licence (no mention of the normal affiliation fee that we pay to just race Provincials) ... then i think to Worlds - we had to get a domestic licence there which was then upgraded to an international licence.

So maybe you do need a full licence ....

But anyway - the issue of categories needs to be sorted out.

They fixed mine up. Some how if you 43yr you get sent to Sub vet and if you are 41ys you stay in Vets. But it was sorted out in the end and I raced with peeps my age.

The steel bridge from Virgin is partly washed away ...

The tar in the parking area where the pics are taken is no longer - was swept away as rafts of tar ...

The trials section is also no longer!

so is Mr minn also expert at the paddley sections?

Some of us are still broken..... Not that we could realistically be seen as competitive though. More like part of the rent-a-crowd on two wheels :w00t: Soon my boy, soon....!
