I'm in TA (tandems). I'm looking for somebody to transport our tandem to the Amashova from Cape Town and back. Will pay obviously, but want to avoid putting it on the plane. Would appreciate if anyone can help.

For those that have done the race -lots of climbing in this race?

16km climb up Fox Hill from the start.  This race proves that Durban is actually higher than PMB.

Well you will think so after the 1st 40kms.  Gets easier after that.

Am I no longer good enough to be on your listing? I'm in A...

Maybe start a Google Doc for everyone to input, probably easier to manage.

The highest point of the race is reached at 14km. There is some flatish stuff to the Thornville turnoff at 17km, after which we begin the slow and steady descent to DBN.

The first half of the race can be split into 2 sections:

Section 1: the climb out of PMB to Thornville.

Section 2: the exposed run to Cato Ridge @ 43km.

Section 2 is where you are exposed to winds. Most often a gutter wind or a head wind along that stretch.

So the clever guys will burn all sorts of matches up section 1 to make sure they're in the bunch along that exposed stretch. Keep it in mind.

Sweet! This is good to know... So I'll have to have a look at re-seed!

All four times I've done this race, I've been dropped going up Fox hill. First in the A-bunch, then Vets 35-39 (both times) and the last time i did it on the tandem. Spending 10 days in China (now) is not helping my cause for this year. Hopefully a 4 year break from the race and I'll forget where the top is, and burn those extra few matches to stay with the group.

Ja, Fox Hill is a gentle gradient but the problem is the speed at which the early bunches go up. I've chatted to elite guys who have said how incredibly hard that first bit is, due to all the attacks.

Makes a difference being warmed up at the start versus starting fresh.
