Hi All

Just some advice required.

I have a 2012 Axis AR40 road bike which I want to sell and upgrade. I bought the bike new in August 2013. I haven't made any changes and it comes with the following:

Full Tiagra Groupset (10 Speed)

Shimano RS10 wheels

Aliminium frame with carbon fork

Saddle, stem and seatpost are standard.

What would be a realistic asking price?

I dont have much experience with these kind of things.

Would it be a better to instead get a new frame and use the current groupset and upgrade over time?

Probably about 4-5k Bud.

Have a look at the absolute bargains available in the classifieds on mainstream branded, high spec, machines.

Depends which of the sharks circle you in the classifieds and how eager you are to sell.

Probably you're looking at about 50-60% of what you paid for it after haggling and crazy offers. It's a 2012 bike even though you bought it in 2013 and the fact it's Alu frame, Tiagra and 10 speed doesn't give it much sex appeal. f it had disk brakes you could call it a cyclocross bike and peeps would go nuts for it!

Everyone wants carbon and if you don't want carbon then chances are you're a real nerd and want a steel frame made by an old man or younger guy with a beard and dungarees. Only Alu frame which gets wheeled out is the Caad something from Cannondale along with the mantra 'it's lighter than most carbons'.

Personally I would have tried to shift it in the run up to the Argus to some of the hordes who realised last minute they didn't have a bike despite entering 6 months + before. Gumtree might be a better bet and a different level of consumer and might be looking for that level of bike more.

This is 7k new at Solomons, but you already knew that!

Yeah, 5k if it's in good nick. You don't lose all that much on the lower end bike...

They are nice tho. Just got one for a mate who started riding! Good luck man

Thanks for the advice. Seems 5k(ish) is the popular amount. Unfortunately couldn't sell pre argus as it could have lead to me being bikeless for the Argus.

5K as your starting advertised price, 4000-4500 as your probable final negotiated result. Be flexible, be realistic, but don't be soft on chancers.

Personally I believe that secondhand you sell for around 60% of the "new" price minus 5-10% (depending on condition) for each year you've ridden it.
