Sagan's Synapse - 7.45kg

I realize diff set ups for different races, but still.

Take out the custom steel excel designed to put ON weight and you get 6.8kg. :whistling:

Not sure if industry will let this happen. If they take it away completely that will be the end of electric gears and disc brakes. No one will ride a 7.2kg bike if they allowed to ride a 5.5kg bike.

"safety rule" of 6.8kg is total BS. A bike can be over 6.8 and still be unsafe if not designed and manufactured properly.

Testing to a standard is the the way they should have gone from the start - but that would have been the intelligent option, which is the complete opposite of what the UCI does in most cases. It would be something along the lines of being able to take several loads in different directions.100kg load on the bb for 100000 cycles, 70kg to the side, etc etc.

If those 4kg bikes pass, why not ride them?

I also wonder how this will impact on the use of power meters and disk brakes - I would like to see if the pros will choose to use these if they had the option of riding lighter.

Agreed. I like seeing the pros find inventive ways to add weight - sprinters going for stiffer set ups, addition of power meters, aero wheels etc.

If the minimum weight drops we'll be back to bog standard bikes that are a bit less interesting.

I think setup will get interesting - some will go all out to be as light as possible, others for disks in the rain (and Wiggins, if there are any downhills). Electronic or not will depend on sponsor. Power meters are hard to call, imo not something you look at when racing.

Here is the Short-cut for those of us that way more than 100kg ..... cut carbs and sugar lots of money saved and added benefit of health...no need to alt your steed... loses the weight on your body..... allot cheaper(your bike will be grateful)

Check out this statement too.

This'll be cool!

“We will look at technology such as cameras on bikes and in team cars to see how they can be used to enhance the viewer experience. Imagine being able to share the view of Chris Froome as he rode up Mount Ventoux or came up the Champs-Elysees to win last summer’s Tour de France.

“And why stop at cameras—what about having microphones on bikes or sharing rider data on screen?”

Don't you think though that the weight limit is more to protect the general cyclist? Pro's can change their bikes at any time so if its found that a 5kg bike cant stand up to the rigours of a race stage they will just get on a heavier bike. Or if there are a lot of downhills on a stage get on a heavier bike to speed up the descent? Similarly if the stage has lots of climbs, get on a lighter bike. Whereas you and I are stuck with what we can afford.

I sure hope they change this rule before SA Champs next year or else I'm going to have to hide a kg of weights under my saddle

Not gonna happen in time.

You'll have to put those two bricks in your jersey pockets.

The headline should have read, “UCI considering being less dickish, but will not commit to timeline for becoming cool”. That would have been a precise summary of the article. Instead the bikeradar piece was titled, “UCI’s ‘outdated’ 6.8kg minimum bike weight rule to be replaced?”

It amounts to the same thing.

Those weights glued to the tt are pretty cool.
