A flippant response.

Trust me, if you drive over a cyclist who jumped a red and let's say you killed him, you will have that with you for the rest of your life. The chop jumps a light and through no fault of yours, you cause the death of another human being. You'll never, ever be the same again.

Not to mention the other lives that will be ruined from that cyclist's, namely his wife and kids waiting at home for daddy to join them for breakfast.

Let's say for instance a taxi skips a red light, causing a collision, and I am in the right, and several of the people in the taxi die. Would your argument be the same?

I killed someone on the road once. drove over him as a matter of fact. I'm pretty much the same. And yes, he was in the wrong. Pedestrian on the highway. And, no, it wasn't a black man near one of the squatter camps either.

I cross over red lights...........why...........because 100m past the red light the two lanes might become one and the driver behind me might not be watching his lane as he is checking his side mirror for a gap to merge into the other lane.

Think about it. The intersection is the most dangerous section for a cyclist. Now we are stationary and the light turns green. We slowly start moving and whilst doing so we might be a bit unstable as well trying to cleat in and trying to go around all the rubbish in the intersection and whilst all this is going on other cars are trying to pass you as well.

I will never just jump a red light but I will slow down and cross it when safe because then I am less of a obstruction further down the road to the cars that stopped behind me.

You need lessons or something. 99% of the time, I pull out ten-15 meters on a car from stationary. Unless it's some wanker dicing in his Hyundai iIO, me on a bicycle accelerates faster initially. I reckon it's mostly reaction time that does it, as I'm checking the through traffic and the lights on all sides.

I usually do the same but you do get the person that did not shift to a lower gear before coming to a stop etc etc. I do track stands quite well and seldom ever have to cleat out whilst waiting at a intersection and I am also able to pull a gap. I was just generalising a bit I suppose to get my point across.

Please show me the cyclist who never ever skipped a red... the most important thing to take into consideration when you do skip is make sure NO ONE'S life is in danger.......and I am not promoting skipping.

I like a man that can trackstand. Great evidence of a mis-spent youth

( the last time I rode with the lab, a couple of them almost failed to stop at a light as they were to busy staring at me doing a stand. Think it, and riding in a straight line, should be mandatory skills all cyclists should learn)

Never mind dicing cars. If you want to pull a ten to 15m gap you usually have to go as the light turns green and that is exactly the time when the driver of the car that skips the red light takes you out.

It's fine if you do it but keep an eye out for cars that skip lights.

Exactly.
