I have a frame a and a few parts and am contemplating building a single speed, but is there really a market for single speeds?

What is the limit of what I can spend on this bike before it is too much?

Anybody have some info would be great?

If you are building it for you then great but I doubt that it will be a money spinner....

Build it with what you have and see what happens , that's what I am doing.

Just do it! You know you want to :whistling:

You can never spend too much on a bike no matter if its geared, singlespeed, suspended or rigid.

But yeah only you can decide if you want to build it or not. I personally ride a steel rigid singlespeed and I love every minute on it. I love the simplicity and cheap as chips maintenance. And who cares what I spend on it, its mine at the end of the day and it provides me with endless hours of pleasure.

Don't understand the question...

You can build a single speed for a number of reasons: the pure simplicity, getting back to basics, tired of gears, the challenge of riding all types of terrain, becoming a stronger rider...

Whether there is a market or a spending limit on a SS shouldn't really be part of the thought process. I will say that your first SS should be a conglomeration of as many left over parts as you can find. Good luck!

My Ss cost less to build than my other bike,s wheelset and is my favorite .I do believe getting the proper frame will make the whole exersize so much more worthwhile than using leftover parts and frame

I built my SS for abt R500 using my old frame and parts when I upgraded. Best R500 ever spent. It's become my go to bike in winter due to simplicity and low maintenance. I can ride every day in heavy rain and mud without a problem. Just hose it down and lube her up and she's ready to go again.

I fully expect to give her away when I upgrade again, as I'll convert my current bike to SS. Don't bring the "market" into something as beautiful as single speeding. Just build it, ride it, and forget about the " market".

I have an old 26" bike that has served me well for a long time, anyone have any thoughts on turning it into a SS for things like Spruit rides etc.

Should I rather get hold of a 29"er frame?

Sixer all the way. Converting a cherished bike to SS seems the way to breath new life into it...

For 3k you can get an on one inbred frame SS READY STEEL FRAME For under 10k you can build it with good parts and have something that rides well enough to be used as your go to bike
