F111 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 In this video, They install a BBInfinite Press Fit, Direct Fit Shimano bottom bracket in a Cannondale, and a Dura Ace BSA, thread in cup style bottom bracket in a Cervelo for a show down. Who has the best spin: Shimano or BBInfinite? What do you think of this test?
schizo Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I like the test, Just a question because I installed a new Shimano BB last week, and it felt a bit tight, Does it require some time to wear? Could that be the case with the Dura Ace here?
Eldron Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Dumb ass test. Spinning any new BB is stupid - they all come lubed up with too much grease and need time to clear some grease. If you cleaned both BBs and added some light oil they'd spin the same I reckon. Also - without load the test is meaningless anyway. That said - I really like the PF to BSA BBInfinite "converter" - I need a new one for my Niner! Google time :-) If anyone knows if a local LBS stocks them please let me know.

shaper Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 he greased the durace and not the BBInfinite, the grease is bound to cause some friction?
David Marshall Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 It looks impressive but I don't know what it really means. Take a reasonably worn Dura Ace bb, wash the remaining grease out of the bearing and it will spin like crazy! In reality you would need to compare in a long term road test.
Eldron Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 he greased the durace and not the BBInfinite, the grease is bound to cause some friction? The grease he put on the Dura Ace is between dust cover and crank - they move together. No added friction. Theoretically the dust cover, crank and inner race move together. Friction is between inner race, bearing and outer race.
AdamA Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I can get my Deore External Threaded BB to spin like his BBinfinite.

Flowta Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Quickrock bb... local is lekker and its what the kargo guys and kief is running.. Where can I get one? Price?
Skylark Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 When you pack a bearing with grease should you really fill it up?I've noticed even though some eventually squeezes out after going for a ride the extra amount of grease adds friction, that compared to just putting in a limited but sufficient amount. Packing the bearing chockablock with grease I'm sure helps prevent washout to a degree but I think I'd prefer less friction if less grease will make a real difference when riding? It's a clearly noticeable difference when you try rotate a wheel or crank with overly greased bearings by hand, even after months of riding.
no calves Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Where can I get one? Price? quickrock.net is their website! pricey but worth every penny
Flowta Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 quickrock.net is their website! pricey but worth every penny I see they have for GXP (SRAM) but not Shimano in 41 pressfit
