I got to ride the 11fiddy gs as well, my mate recently spent a substantial amount to get his running right.
I can understand the hype around these classics. Holds its own to the modern versions, and for me rides better in some sense. More connected, other than abs, no rider aids. Comfortable for earing up off tarmac kms

I like the 1100 and 1150. Would like one in my garage…….to use as well, not just as a garage Queen.

I am starting to look around for an adventure bike for the occasional longer trip, weekend ride to Harties and general around town use.

Been looking at used KTM 1090/Triumph Tiger 1200/GS 1200/Super Tenere, does anyone have input of benefits/drawback other suggestions?

I am only 5.8" so been able to touch the ground is an important consideration

Katoom 1190. I am a big fan, I am same height as you.  Effortless power, great handling and an absolute hoot. I have had my 2013 model for just 4 years but 60 000 kms and several other bikes to ride. I have had  no issues at all. Been all over SA. Ridden  all weather too. I confess I have just bought a new Yam T7 to steer away from rider aids and keep it simple as I am now shortly hitting the next decade after the50’s……lighter smaller bike. However I am keeping the 1190 and will ride it as long as I can.

Years ago a mate of mine had a Lancia Beta - It gave him endless ****, but he loved it and he used to tell me how when he drove past a shop window or parked it outside a club he would always look back and think what a great looking car it was.  I thought he was a bit biased but I find myself looking back at the TRX more often than not and thinking wow, that's a great looking bike....

And more reliable than the Lancia……perhaps faster too…….though not as important I guess.

So, my first overnight rally in Blighty. First rally since rhino 2016.

nothing like rallies in ZA. All chilled and peaceful. Yes sir,  no revving of motorcycles, no girls getting their kit off, no shenanigans of any sort. Just a load of people chilling. Couple of bands and generally talking a lot with old friends and new just met friends. Also met a guy I ain’t seen since 1980 which was an incredible coincidence. IMG_8679.heic

Numbers were limited due to elf and safety to 500 but there was space for 3 times that but elf and safety. Bands were good, pricing was excellent for pints and food. Portaloos were kept clean and piss Lillie’s around so all good. Slept like baby with no idiots revving the tits off their Suzukis. Woke up at around 3:30 and stood by the bonfire for a bit. There was a fire Marshall in attendance 24 hours at the bonfire. More elf and safety. TVs showed England Samoa and Scotland Ireland.

first motor I heard was 07:16. Cue to get up, pack up and head on home.

all civilised. Average age was probably mid 60s which indicates rallies are dying, motorcycling probably dying too in the west. Certainly motorcycle for pleasure like we know it. Did not take too many fotos but herewith. My F800GT ( Ge Tuned) was exemplary, what a Lekker bike. Surprised BMW did not sell much more these and the ST.

Stumbled on this 1994 Sturgis clip, interesting to see how few baggers were in the game back then compared to what what would typically see now.

IS THIS STUPID?

Ok, so I have this immense urge to get an open face (3/4) helmet for hot summer days when riding down to the local shop, taking the kids to school or just slower speed local "stuff".

Is this a really really stupid idea.

I think I know the answer, but asking anyway.

Only when you fall off…

Personally, I wouldn’t ride open face. However, I do the shop run without a jacket and in shorts in summer sometimes. It will hurt equally when skin touches tar…

I have had a faceplant at slow speed for a moto ( 35 to 40km/h) when I was riding my bicycle on dirt, and my helmet did it’s job, my concussion could have been far worse. What it didn’t do is protect my face. Had split upper and lower lip, eye almost swollen shut, and cuts even in my ear. I was spitting highveld sandstone out of my mouth for a week afterwards.

But , we are all adults and surely should be able to face the consequences of our decisions, good and bad.

Hang on ... did you post the same comment on the Wild Dogs Forum .....

I now the open face is not clever, and am "talking" myself out of this.

Now how cool, not "cool" would a helmet like this be instead in summer :P

When bombing down a road on a downhill at 60km/h plus on the MTB I often think when on the motorbike, I always have full kit. Yet here I am on a bicycle doing 60+ in shorts and a cycling top and open helmet.

You fall at 60 on a MTB or motorbike the result is the same.

Things I ponder while riding

I did post on WDs about this as well. My double persona has been exposed…😀

I do not understand why people feel that they have the right to park in motorbike parking with their cars.

So I managed to get in and still take the last bay.

Hey Gents

I've been toying with the idea of getting a trials bike (to putter behind my son on his 50cc, improve my skills and have a little fun) and came across one on FB but it's an old 90s Fantic. Anyone know the brand and what parts availility is like now?

The bike has been standing for a long time so loads of seals etc will need replacement... they only want R7500 for it, but I suspect it's going to be a lot of work to get it going, assuming I can find the parts...

Fantic is a relatively unknown brand in ZA. I would be careful for that reason.

Thanks, given the amount of things needing replacement and the all the unknowns, I decided not to take it...
