The baby Honda (‘75 400F) has not been run in 18 months. I had installed new front brake pads with a new calliper from David Silver in UK. On tightening it all up the wheel was immovable. I have managed to shave off some of the after market pads, that was a lesson in face masks and glasses! Anyways, wheel turns, brakes bled,  fresh fuel and oil, ready for a spin………waiting for a rain free day and dry roads!A1833FDD-ED38-4A56-8BC2-1FBA0F4E24E4.jpeg.3352ba511283b6a7ab0742829a1ea602.jpeg

Man I love those slanted header pipes. They always looked more slanted than other 4 cylinders

Not entirely sure - I am hoping for the end of the year at the latest, but a lot depends on finances and how long it actually takes to reassemble/get running. I need to get quotes for repainting side covers, front fender/nose and the enormous fuel tank(s). Hairy you referred me to someone a while back - can you recall who it was and their number?

Do you have time to fit one of these in before you are done.

I do have the original pipes. They need a little TLC for some dents. They are double walled while this aftermarket one from David Silver Honda is single pipe hence the discolouration.

So my Ready to Race Binder wannabe RC390 refused to start. Diagnosed a dead cell on the battery. 8 months old. Exide too which is a good brand. And I ride it often even in winter.

go scouring through my KTM documents. Battery not included in warranty. Order a battery online , should arrive this afternoon. Maybe just a dud , let’s hope so. Ordered a yellow Motobatt. 58 quid including delivery.

Barnacles in Beach View Port Elizabeth. Also part of the Ironman cycle route.

Ahhh that’s why I recognise it. Looks a lot more pleasant when I ain’t on my bicycle kakking off. Used to go to PE often on holidays. Have a good mate. Used to go out to Beach view a lot. Also the Buff was out there a few years.

Local bike mechanic used to stay in Beachview. Buff rally site just down the road from him. One Buff, he did over a 1000 km to get to the rally. If memory serves me, he met a mate in Kimberley and then they made their way back to PE.

That’s how we rolled when fuel was cheap.

one Buff in Mosel bay we left jozi and got stuck at a pub in Hope town. Never made it to the rally. Life is like that sometimes.

the PE buff I think it was 2004, we had a campsite sort of towards the top of the hill. Saturday night my mate Charlie goes to his tent to get something and reckons in his clever state instead of walking along the road he was going to take a short cut through the “hedges” back to the main area. So we all wonder where the hell he is. About 2 hours we get a call from him, he got stuck in the hedges and passed out. We battled to find him too.

one thing I do miss here is a proper opskop rally. Rallies here are like so sanitised.

And while I am on the 2004 Buff reminiscing , the Saturday of the rally was an absolute beaut of a day. A champagne day. We chilled and drank beer and spoke crap and it was just so Lekker to be Lekker. Sunday , a mate and I were leaving from the Buff to toer to the western cape and cape town and we were so looking forward to it.

early Sunday morning the heavens opened up and we were water logged. But being intrepid pielkoppe we decided to soldier on and ride thinking that rain would stop. Well it never did. Pissed down for all the time we were on toer until we got back to Kronstadt a week later. Then sunny and warm. Was a crazy week.

Giving the bike a quick wash and it looks like some chop has gone and jabbed the side of my tank with a key, or something like a key.

What the actual flunk!

Arrow = paint chipped out

Dots = scratches

Not the best pics.

I noticed something disturbing that I did not pick up before.

Some box took a knife to my front tyre, noted this when my bike was on the jack at my mechanic this afternoon, and I was rotating the front wheel.

What a $%@#^%#$ would do this to a bike.

Jeepers Dude, this is shite…….my actual language was definitely not suitable for these forums. I would still ride with that but pay attention to it. I am used to monitoring the tyres on our company jet. The tiniest cuts can be fine for ages and then suddenly seem to get to limits quickly. They are up at 186psi though.
