I have 5 dogs and I am an avid cyclist. There enough other routes to cycle in the area. Cycle the Farm and then along the spruit down on route to Delta Park etc. If you have to enter the gardens stay on the dog free side.

Let the dogs chill in their area. We have already enough other routes. That little 2.5km stretch will not make a difference.

Jeez, you are so far in the wrong, I have to stifle a chuckle.

Simple question, should dogs be on leashes in public parks? YES/NO?

Are you usually this pig-headed or is this trolling Wednesday?

spare me your LA Law courtroom theatrics. Why not try being a better person, rather than being right all the time. Dogs on leashes, off leashes - who cares? Just ride away or around them, and everyone will be happy. So what if the dog walkers are at fault and you are RIGHT! It feels better being NICE - try it, a new experience I am sure. As for the Rottweiler incident, dogs are great judges of character

I have been thinking about the dog on a leash issue on the Spruit. I think it is better if the dogs are not on a leash. Think about it. Mostly now the dogs are all over the place in the veld and hardly ever walking next to their owners on the track. Imagine now, all the dogs on leashes with their owners on the track the whole time. Now think of those long extendable 5 meter leashes that gives the dog some freedom and you trying to get past this getup. No thank you. I would rather go slower for the odd dog the walks in the track, currently.

You are truly special. Your lack of consideration for your fellow human is tangible.

I politely asked that dog owners keep their dogs on a leash and pick up their poo (as required by law and common human decency).

This polite request sent you into a (rabies-induced?) demented frenzy of attacks and BS.

Over and out.

Actually some parks have leash free zones for dog walkers.

Leashed or unleashed though, generally as a cyclist on the trail/greenspace the onus is on YOU to slow down and/or give right of way. Not only to dog walkers, but walkers, runners, horses.

Simple.

I was STATIONARY with one foot unclipped and off the path, in order to let the walkers/dogs/children pass...good enough?

I always enjoyed Emmerentia, its a wonderful well kept green lung in the middle of a big city.

In my opinion residents deserve to be able to go there and enjoy the space without having to pay for entrance, I always loved going there, for me it was a chance to enjoy a great park, listen to the birds, watch the ducks and enjoy a stroll with my wife, my dogs enjoyed a run and a quick swim. For me anyway thats a win/win situation.

However it seems to me (from the letter published) the issue is not dog walkers, old people, cyclists, kids, dog Poo underfoot or any of the other gripes but quite simply - Budget. Yes, they are gripes, but not the reason the park may be gated and a fee charged.

You all know that song "Let there be peace in the world, and let it begin with me" - its so relevant, Emmerentia is a great facility, it is what it is, just go and enjoy.

You asked a simple general question.

Methinks NONKY is miffed at being owned today - don't worry Nonky, I am sure you can submerge into your self-righteous martyred correctness when you get home and kick your neighbour's dog. Funnily enough it is my consideration for others that inspires me to ignore the error of their ways - you, on the other hand, seem to be hell-bent on "law and rule enforcement" - "pick up your poop!" "Shackle your canine beast" - why not go live in the UK - they LOVE that sort of thing? With respect, (and by that I mean, with abosolutley NONE) Yours is concern about rule transgression, and has NOTHING to do with consideration for others.
