I don't understand some people!!! Why were you not in front of them since you seem to be a better rider than them? As for your gears well there were 4 of us who only had one gear 32X17. No problems there. Just try a bit harder. Not everyone is going to enjoy every race I get that. But try to look at the good side. We got to ride in a beautiful part of the WC. It was fun. :whistling:

I am not a race snake like you. I like to use ALL the gears to my disposal. (By the way, I did pass a chap on his rigid single speed going up one of the climbs. Still told him he's a better / braver man than me)

And I would have been infront of most of those guys I'm talking about, if I did not have to stop an wrestle the wire out of my cassette.

Seems racing, and not reading / comprehension, is your strong point. :whistling:

I will be sure to take a book with me next time to read while I wait for you to finish.

Being on a SS does not make someone a better/braver rider. It is just the next step up. Nothing more nothing less.

Maybe your case is the exception as you had a mechanical but I am tired of hearing "all the slow people in front of me held me up"

Im confused? You say being on a single speed doesn't make them better and then follow up saying its the next step? Next step to what?

Dont take a book, just order a FROSTY, we will be there shorlty. How is this possible them! Did the Karoo to Coast last year. They used the Argus road race results for seeding. Just cause a guy road a 3.45 they put him in the Elite group. Passed him on the 30km mark.(I`m no racing snake) he also had no breakdowns. He cant climb!!!!!. He ended up doing a 6:30. Is that not what happens at every mtb event?

No need to, I'm clearly not in your league.

Next step to riding. Agreed not all people are interested in riding SS but to most I have spoken to it was the next challenge. They have ridden geared bikes for so long and want a new challenge. It is probably a personal thing for them like it is for me.

It certainly doesn't make them/me a better rider. Maybe stronger as it is a bit harder to get up the hills but that is about all. Yes,No/Maybe?

And next step in riding does not imply better? Your original statement was very arrogant, especially when viewed in the context of the comments. Some people require all their gears and are not ready to 'take the next step' as you put it.

Guys, let it be.

I did not enjoy the race, for whatever reasons. Nothing anybody can do to change that.

Next year I will just not enter the event, and do something else on the day.

Problem solved.

Because you are the gospel right!

I never said I was gospel. I just said your comment towards wannabe were quite arrogant, your subsequent was response confirmed it.

In the end it was an awesome event that I had a blast at... Except for when a protea bush jumped outta nowhere and beat the crap outta me... :P :P

Hahaha some sections was so narrow i'm now sitting with a very swollen middle finger from a branch that slapped my hand.

*I'll be more than happy to send a photo to anyone who wants to see it :whistling:

Hell.. Ja... At a stage I recall pushing outwards on the inside of my brake levers as the bushes found it amusing to brake for me and the most inappropriate times...

SS riding is in fact not very good for you it places too much stress on joints, ligaments and muscles so for me this would never be the "next step" and I have been riding mtb since 1990.
