To Camelbak or Not to Camelbak

Lately I have had a real dilemma when preparing the night before a race.

I used to pack my spare tube, Co2 bombs, tool, etc in my Camelbak, and then ride with that.

My past two races I have not used a Camelbak, and I much preferred it. I put a tube in the one bottle holder, Co2 attached to the bottle cage, and everything else in a saddle bag.

I know its a personal preference thing, but I was interested to know what other people are doing when riding their MTB races.

I much preferred not having the Camelback on my back, but I can also carry alot more with me if I use it.

Personally, I would have stuck with the Camelbak. I'm not a race snake so the "image thing" doesn't really come into the equation. I prefer it all nicely tucked away in the pouch at the back. An added bonus is no mud and who knows what else on the spout of your bottle. I had jippo guts once from s dirty bottle. Never again.

Also comes in handy when you go OTB.... ;)

Still ride with mine although I would prefer not to. My main concern is that I use it for stage races where I'll carry a bit more in case somthing goes wrong. So I ride with it most of the time so that I'm used to it.

I am considering chucking it though.

Jersey pockets.

I am not a real fan of the "Proper" cycling jerseys with the pockets, I much prefer normal wicking material t-shirts, I find that to be much more comfortable.

It is convenient sure, that being said it gets hot on your back and becomes very uncomfortable so I would also ditch it. Try taping a tube to your bike that way you get to carry 2 x waterbottles

Agreed, Jersey pockets. If it can't fit, you are carrying too much stuff. You do however need to wear a jersey with 3 pockets preferably.

Jersey pockets can only hold so much, before your shirt starts pulling you backwards. Camelbak for the rest...

On long rides around CPT, mountain and road.. Camelbak has place for repair kits, tucked away wind breakers and warmers, cellphone, activity card/bank card, even a pump.. and water.

Anything attached to the bike just creates noise which annoys me beyond belief. Ive even cable tied all my cables together to stop them slapping each other on bumpy sections.

Ja not really a question that you can pose to a forum..... Personal preference at the end of the day. It either works for you or it doesn't

Tape tube to bike, bombs on bottle cage. Small tool, bomb regulator and tyre levers in saddle bag.

Food in pockets.

It is personal preference, but it is always good to get other peoples opinions on the matter, and this forum is a great place to do that.

I hate a Camelbak.

I do not like the feeling of a thing on my back. My wife is on my back more than often enough.

I tape a tube to my bike. I have a pouch that goes in my pocket. It has 2 bombs, a bomb adapter, tyre levers and a multitool. Also a master link for chain and a spare dropper. Phone and food goes in other 2 pockets. Only really use food on races, and then use a small spare phone.

1 bottle on bike, and on longer races a 2nd bottle.

I used to use a camelback, but prefer without.
