Hi Jaco,

What problem did you request them to fix that was closed?

Busy with the developer now and would like to get your query resolved.

Also have to query why you need to sell your powerbeam, you can use any software.  Here a list of the main software options.  Taken from the Kickr website and the powerbeam is compatible with them all as well https://www.wahoofitness.com/media/downloads/KICKR_App_Comparison_Table.pdf

Most use trainneroad or Zwift

Gatvol of the slipping as soon as the gradient kicks. Can't do any hilly courses on it. Still good for flat riding and flat interval training

Was the slipping always as issue or started as the unit aged ?

I've been playing around with mine and found that running the tyre pressure at about 4 bar eliminates the slipping.

For those who are experiencing "slipping" of the rear wheel, please could you advise if you using the new CycleOps clutch knob system as per the below link or the older cam leaver system ??

The CycleOps clutch knob system allows for a consistent pressure on the rear wheel and should help with the "slipping" issues raised.

I have the know that you turn which ever system that is. When I bought the powerbeam I did not have that issue. It progressively got worse. I have never tried running lower pressures. Bought a new tyre now to see if that sorts it out. Will play with the tyre pressure at low bar as well

Jaco-fiets, I had the same problem with mine from the start. If i had to fault the power beam, this is were it can cause frustration.

I found the following helps:

 - use indoor training specific tyre. think the harder compound and not using on the road does help.

 - clean the roller and tyre before use. Used a wet cloth on the tyre and made sure the rotating drum was clean. Dust/dirt and oil from the roads made it slip MORE.

 - I notice that the locking mechanism can be pulled up or pushed down before tightening (a few mm play up or down). Try both ways to see if you get better grip.

 - I found between 6 to 7 bar was the best for me.

I eventually took the system to Bicycle Power and they managed to replace the metal drum, which did make a difference...

Either way, try these tricks or call Bicycle Power. Sure they will help you. Excellent service!

I am using the cam lever system. The link doesn't work, but what is the cost of the clutch knob system ?

I tune you......shoulda stayed away from iTunes...

Interesting to hear all these problems, have not been doing races but only the occasional recovery ride via the free ride function.

As for the tyre slipping issues, never really had a problem and I use a standard continental road tyre pumped up to 120-140 psi (9 bar +/-). Logic tells me though that with low cadence and very high resistance any tire would slip a bit.

@ bicycle power... What are the chances that the spring in the knob tension type system could get weaker over time and as a result allow more slipping?

@SwissVan

It is unlikely that the spring will loose tension. In the past 2 and a half years we have never had to replace one.

The Clutch knob stops the resistor being tightened too much or too loose, as with the previous Cam lever this was done. They have eliminated this by providing the trainers with the clutch knob.

Think most slippage case are due to the trainers using the older Cam lever systems whereby the tread on the shaft has worn done and thus does not "bite" into the threaded bolt nicely and causing the resistor not to tighten up correctly allowing a slight release when tightened up.
