the CVT software also seems to be a bit of a hit n miss.

Tried downloading 2 different video's, they get to 99% then fail...

Just going to use the trainer for intervals via trainerroad and forget about all the virtual software stuff.

Also struggling with iPad videos as posted earlier. Now just doing the occasional workout until software annual license expires.

Thanks for the race Yesterday, its still the best possible workout you'll ever get on an IDT.

My 2c regarding the Virtual training software:

At first I bought the powerbeam to ride videos just to make it less boring and get my ass on the IDT for more than 30min. Many MB's and frustration later I gave up on downloading videos and thought this was a waste of money. However the one or 2 videos that I did manage to download I rode about 2 times for the videos sake, thereafter I was more interested in the route profile and the actual wattage that I was putting out, occasionally looking at the video.

Although I'm not 100% happy with CVT and the costs involved, for me it is still the best platform.

Also don't have an issue with the trainer or CVT, had for 3 months now the powersync and have close to 2000kms on it riding workouts at least 4 days a week ranging from 40mins to 1:30hrs in addition to weekend rides.  Never get slippage and use a trainer tyre.

When I first got it, tried the videos which were fun, but to me that is just free riding and not training so it is the same as I do out on the road every weekend and has no real structure to it and is not what I bought the trainer for.

Done the odd race which is fun too and a good workout, will come back to doing a few races once have finished my current training program.

For me the CVT software is about the numbers in a controlled environment whilst doing workouts and sets with power.  I don't even use the workouts that are already in CVT just create my own based on what my program says I should be doing that day and generally free ride when doing these and adjust the power brake wattage on the fly at the time.

For me it does what it says on the box, perhaps the perception by others of what they want out of it is where the issues may occur.

One day when I can afford having a house with a separate exercise room, I'll have a screen in there big enough to make using the videos worthwhile.

Until then, I'll just squint at the tablet screen or watch whatever my wife feels like on the TV.

I need to start looking at structure in my training instead of just putting in the time...

I try do more climbs and manage power output but my wattage is still way too low

my problem is not so much fitness anymore but the watts in reserve - unfortunately far too little

That said I have made huge progress since I got the trainer which allows me to train no matter the weather or time I get home - which is why I got it... and I must say that I am glad I got a Tacx Vortex Smart - not a single hassle with it yet.

I have never used the videos much - it distracts from focusing on the numbers, but lately I have realised that the Premier Workouts with Paincave videos makes me work harder....

On the mobile app i am able to calibrate my trainer, on the PC version im not? has anyone else experienced this.

Lately I only use the Android app, and every so often I struggle with the calibration. Then I have to stop the app completely, before it will work correctly.

Reply from Cycleops. Apparently the pc software pics up if your trainer requires calibration or not and greys out the option if it is not required. Don't know about that as ive never had the option to calibrate on the pc since dia uno

I use Carmichael Training Systems videos and adjust the power on my power beam pro manually in "freeride". Gives me a TV coach to help structure the sessions.

CTS have several videos specific for different training:

-MTB

-Climb

-Fitness

-Power

Anyone else do this???

The "power" workout looks like this:

Interrested, how does this works? Still the CVT software?

Jorrie, CMT is an indoor video "spinning" type class. So I follow the routine and use the "freeride" on the CVT software (via my Ipad).

So I vary the power up and down to suit the workout, or lets say I decide 200w is the power I want, I set the 200w and then when the cadence changes or they do "hill climbs" the resistance will automatically increase with slower cadence...

The CMT for Power video is a killer with stair type max efforts!

For me a cool combination.

Sounds like an interesting option. What are the costs like?
