Just flew with my bike from Lanseria to CT and it was fairly straight forward.

booked extra luggage online prior to flight (R245.00 each way)

I would suggest pre-booking as if you just arrive it is R350.00 per item each way.

Got a old bike box from my LBS, removed pedals, seatpost and front wheel.

Bubble wrapped everything and it all fitted pretty snug.

Good Luck :)

Good Luck

They stuffed up a buds bike from Cape Town to Durban last week Friday. Lekker deep gouge in the carbon on the downtube.

My understanding is that you should blame the baggage handlers at the airport and not the airline, not necessarily Kulula's fault

Pack your bike in a cardboard bike box, fill the box with your clothes, shoes, helmet and general soft stuff until you get to the 20kg mark.

Check the box in as your 1 piece of luggage. Nothing extra to pay.

Put the balance in your hand luggage.

or do this if you cheap! its R700 for the bike so its not gonna brake the bank.

Or if you are sensible.

I often fly with a bike, both locally and internationally and have never failed to fit my bike into the allocated luggage allowance.

It has nothing to do with being cheap. When last I checked i could buy myself a plane to fly my bike down without breaking the bank. I have just never thought it the best way to go about it.

So how long have you worked for Kulula? :whistling:

Good question! That's the same drivel they gave me when they were so kind as to ding my wheel in December. They did offer to give me a piece of paper stating they damaged the wheel to help with an insurance claim. Bidvest are the baggage handling pricks and guess what..? They too couldn't give a rats rectum about you pride and joy.

Its the cost of a ticket - please can you send me R700 or are you being cheap? :whistling:

Used them on the weekend from Lanseria to Durban. If your bike bag is your only piece of luggage and weigh less than 20kgs there's no charge. I had a wheel bag as well so unfortunately had to pay an additional R350 for the extra bag when I checked in. If you pay for extra luggage online 24 hours before departure its R250 (per bag). All the airlines use the same baggage handlers so if it gets damaged by Kulula it can get damaged by any other airline as well. Rather take the responsibility on your self to make sure the bike is properly packed. I bubble wrapped my entire bike and used a soft padded bike bag.

I fly way too much and ONLY with hand luggage as a result of seeing how the guys treat baggage. FFS, you can FEEL them throwing the luggage into the hold of the jet when seated - WHAT are they doing down there? My personal favourite was when I saw them throw a DHL package marked "FRAGILE" from the hold directly onto the tarmac in Mauritius...top work, guys!

Dude, what really got on my tits was that I had stuck in excess of 10 fragile stickers on the PADDED bike bag. I also added extra padding by slicing pool noodles lengthways so they made a C shape and taped them to all parts where possible impacts could occur.
