The issues around the use of The Ladder have been amicably resolved and all parties are now on good working terms - evidence of this below from a recent email from one of the owners:

"We wish you a very successful event this year and good luck to the riders.

Kind Regards,

Johan Zaaiman"

We hope you all enjoy following the event this year and thank you to all those posting updates on this thread.

Wonderful news, good luck to all indeed.

We will keep an eye on those pesky riders for you, just make sure they keep the trackers charged and the rest is simple!

Ernst looks to be home at Allendale.

PJ, Trevor, Nigel and Russell close behind followed by Chris, John and Jeremy.

Everyone should be in in time for burgers and sun downers on the Veranda  .

Edit: Ernst looks like he took a little detour... perhaps down the Blackwoods driveway for water?...

Still someway to Allendale for all... not long though...

Enjoying the tracking this year - so far so good - a system which works!

Well done to Glenn and Meryl - taken the flow of info to the next level and the organisation is by all accounts top class.

Twitter and Facebook seem to be where its happening live this year.

Now all we need is the weather to play ball and we'll have some excitement - surely we cant have another 'dry' year and miss out on the drama which rain and snow delivers.

PS: my money is on Marnitz this year for the quickest time.

Tracking is fantastic this year - well done!!

I must admit after spending a bit of time at the start over the weekend, I am most impressed.  The effort the race office puts in, in tracking and looking out for the riders, and the effort from the support stations is fantastic....never mind the effort the riders put in out on the trail.  Being able to watch is all with regular updates and live tracking just makes it awesome for us at home - thanks!

I also got to meet a couple of hubbers including the legend Johannrissik as well as dirt-rider who starts with Merak today.  Good luck

tubed, I always looked forward to your daily updates/insights from previous years. Any chance you'll be doing these again this year?

I won't put any money on me, rather donate to the Scholarship Fund, they have given me the name Hyena aka Sweeper, I will make sure everybody stays ahead of me or stand the chance of been caught alive and then they will have to ride with me or be eaten......

The race office has got a deadline to make with the Finishers Dinner, I will make sure everybody attend......

med_gallery_11698_1560_152751.png The pink line was my mistake I made in 2013, following Martin's tracks, the grass was burned and I opted for the straight line approach. I cut across the jeep track and rounded the lower spur and ended in the wrong valley, had to climb out of there to much laughter of the race office.......

Reply to an old post reply but it only made sense to me today ... Marnitz we made the EXACT pink mistake on Aasvoelberg this year with R2Cradock. We had 6 RASA riders with 10 rides among them all take the pink left too early. We just went way further to the left, dropping down into the next valley, then had to climb out back to just below the kop, messy. I was uncomfortable but when 10 riders all start heading off to the left and you risk being left all alone on Aasvoelberg, I followed them blindly. At least it provided some entertainment for the race office.

Rode out with the group today. Met Merak. He looked strong and confident with the nav. He's doing well so far  .

Same can't be said for Dirt-rider I'm afraid... will he bunk down in Minerva, or the valley or will he push through to Allendale?...

Luckily when you have made a mistake, you normally won't make the same mistake again, but I can tell you the route cause of the mistake is because we think we know the route, we don't look at the maps nor the narratives and cause great excitement for the race office and followers......

Luckily I have made 100's of mistakes during my wanderings over the past years, the traps is set, it's just a question of time to see who will take the bait.......

You're welcome. Merak asked someone to take a pic for you so I didn't take one of him up close.

I got it, thanks.

Between the live feed, race office up dates, twitter, FB and thehub, I can see I am going to get absolutely no work done this week!!

Snow report reckons Snow in Rhodes area from Thursday - 10 to 15cm....could make it interesting!
