My only advice, just because you start the ride with a head wind, does not mean you will end the ride with a tail wind. Did this race 2 years ago and the last 20km's was into a very strong head wind and we were on our own by then. Eventually made it, but sadly just after the cut off of 8 hours.

I need to get my revenge on the race. Hopefully cut-off is extended to 9 hours. See you there?

Argh - unfortunately this weekend I'm not in Cape Town.

Maybe one of the following weekends. I desperately need base training get going again and then it's nice not to ride alone for hours and hours...

Lets talk next week regarding a lekker long ride. We normally ride to Franschoek via Helshoogte and back to Brackenfell. 105km trip with a brekkie. Usually on a Sunday. You can PM me if you are in.

We go to the Cederberg regularly and I've allways checked out the Nieuwoudt Pass and the Uitkyk Pass, but have never cycled up. So now is the chance to do one of them. The only part of the route that does not appeal to me is the stretch close to the dorp. It will be ok going out, but can be a problem on the way back after 100 km in the saddle, as Ratty discribed

Hi, thats why I said keep some gas in the tank, the last 10km will get you if you are in your CHOPS. :w00t: Dont under estimate the down hill from the top of Nieuwoudts Pass. No free wheeling, you will need to peddle. Last year I had a soft tail this year my Ass is gonna feel it on my Sola 1. Edited by Smurfy

Eish, last year the wind was not such a big factor. But I'm certain there was a head wind the last 20km's, combine it with heat & that last detour through the farmlands it makes for a tough end to a relatively easy race.

Also struggled those last few kms around the dam .... I had no water left and asked the 'marshal' at the turn how far - he said 3-4kms .... it was a lot further. I will also be back this year for sure!

Never heard of this event, on by to do list now.

Looked through Cronje Fourie's photos of last year, looked awesome.

Top tip for Land rover drivers, beware of river crossings.

Jip we had a lekker chuckel at the Water Landy. You would ace this race. No technical sections. Purely a race on gravel. If u did a sub5,6,7 DC this will be a walk in the park for you.

It sound like we made this race to easy.  Maybe we should add something to this year’s route?
