Going off topic here dude. This is not a Santa Cruz vs debate. R35k for a frame without a fork is not exactly cheap. Then when considering Santa Cruz wont win you any races, it makes even less sense. Go enjoy your niche brand, boutique bike, it is a lovely machine. Honestly. They have no racing heritage, so you are not comparing apples to apples.

Santa Cruz, no racing heritage!? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!

hahahahhahahahahaha!!!

That's too good. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Doesn't need to be on a podium to have "racing heritage" - that comes from the company itself. Why does it matter what position the bikes come in when determining "racing heritage"?

EDIT: Oh. Yes, I forgot. Podiums determine sales. 'Cos everyone knows you only win if your bike (well, frame) is the best in the world at that particular moment.

Thats what the s works is designed for. So yes. If you have the talent to win, this is one of the bikes to have. As for the Tallboy vs epic debate, they are different bikes. Tallboy was never intended as a race bike, so pointless comparing them. Thats all.

I know that - but next time, when you make a statement such as that - make sure to mention the SINGLE bike you're referring to. As you can see, your statement clearly referred to SANTA CRUZ having no racing heritage. Which is rubbish.

Apologies. Tallboy, not Santa Cruz.

Yeah - had another look at his dig at Spaz. He didn't mention the tallboy in that post, but he has previously.

My favourite Spaz - definitely the Enduro. Hands down. TBH if my mate Murray asked me if I would like to swap my bike for it (Giant Reign X) I'd have to give it SERIOUS thought before saying yes or no. And - if I got another bike, it'd be that or a Kona. Or a YT.

All a fraction of the price of the S Works Epic, that is...

Robyn de Groot was on a Highball...did pretty well on it too.

Just saying

Robyn De Groot has been riding Trek for pretty much this whole year?

Yea I know....I did say was.....she made her name on that highball before she got a pro contract. Given the choice to stay on it or the trek, i wonder what she would have chosen.

Anyhow

PS...interesting point, she had to fork out her own money and went with the SC....again just saying

I would not buy a s works Epic, for one reason. If I show up at a race with a Epic S works, people will expect me to be competitive, which I am not. Even I dont understand these old fatties on S works epics. I have the version just below, the Marathon carbon. Also attracts less skelms.

Now, S works Camber, S works Stumpjumper fsr and S works Enduro I would have in a heartbeat. They are the sexiest, best bikes money can buy.

I'm pretty sure one of the US Nationals/(other big race) was won on a Tallboy 2 this year. Over heard a conversation at World MXC Champs. I will say the course was properly rough.

When you have to think about an occasion something has won once vs something that wins on a almost daily basis..... Having said that I agree with CptArmpies about racing heritage not being based on CURRENT success, but at some point it must have been successful, otherwise it doesn't really have "heritage". Look at Lotus in F1 a few years back, massive "heritage", couldn't win jack..... Heritage doesn't necessarily mean its any good anymore. Edited by Patchelicious
