I have been involved in te cycle industry for the past 26 years ,14 if those so heavily that I have not had leave longer than a week in those 14 years, it's a hard industry like many others and has issued like many others.

The "flavor of the month" brands have always been around.

It started way back with Peugeot, Alpina, Zini ,Mongoose, GT ,Trek, Giant, GT again ,Raleigh, Merida........ And the trend never ends ,it just goes on and on, that if why more old school guys are going for niche and boutique brands and bikes .

There was a time not so long ago when Raleigh/probike must have had the biggest ever market share of any brand in the funrider=>competitive section of the market (ie not including the commuter section...where they still had a lot, but it's full of lots of brands). The bikes were well priced, well specced and okes like kevin evans/malcolm lange were klapping everyone locally on the top of the range models so you couldn't say they weren't good.

BUT people didn't lust after them like the spaz range, infact raleigh bashing was a popular sport(i might have partook!). These bikes are just plain sexy.

Raleigh's graphics dept was a failure of note .. same as when the Silverback bikes had those hideous surfer styled graphics.... they have improved on this and looking the 2015 snapshots, look to be doing a better job on the graphics side.

Shallow yes, but the average buyer is (I believe) highly influenced by looks.

You should be paying attention to that nice instructor.

Reminds me when I bought my first Cannondale.Took it in to AVH to brag.Did I hit flak.An American bike aaaand Alu...I was shunned. Its all relative I suppose

Hiya Krans, which instructor is that ?

I still remember my first Cannondale and my first left Cannondale with a nice wood finish paint job.

It's not about that, it's about the waves that come and go and the public normally drives it by price or image in conjunction with some good marketing.

Hi can I ask what you paid for yours and did you go with a 1x11 set up?

They are about R60k, as far as I know they only come with the 1 x 11 setup. Only negative is no carbon rims, but you do get the Rockshox pike and the fox ctd like on the s works Camber, with slightly more travel, 120mm instead of 110mm. I will have mine in September apparently, according to my lbs. Cant wait, just in time for better weather.

Johny, I think the price will be a bit more(?)... prob in the R70k region. Who is your lbs ?

Cant ask me secrets like that. The evo expert is actually cheaper than the normal expert you have. difference being that the normal expert has carbon rims, where the evo does not.

JB, how come you went for the Camber instead of the Enduro? Would have thought the Camber and your Epic are a bit close in terms of function, and Enduro might have been a nicer All-Mountain bike?

Camber Evo, so its more agressive than the normal camber, also 120mm travel front and rear, instead of 110 on the normal one. Now here is the thing, I wanted a Stumpy fsr, but as soon as you go to the expert models and up, its comes with brain suspension. Now, as good as the brain is on the Epic, I dont want it on my trail bike. The Camber Evo is very different from the normal camber, just have a look at the tyres it comes with, that should give you a clue. This is no xc machine, its a proper trail bike. Enduro is fun downhill, my legs however dont want to pedal it up anything.

Yes slightly cheaper... but with it being a 2015 model the prices will go up. If the Evo was available beginning of the year I would have bought it! Oh well, still very happy with mine!
