Hey guys

Okay, so I would like to remove and possibly replace my Shimano brake levers, not the entire thing as is, just the lever that is pulled to engage the brake. The brake set that I have is Shimano M445, does any one know how to remove that little lever?

Thanks a lot!

There should be a grub screw on the inside holding the pin in (pivot point) push the pin out and then unscrew the adjuster screw that adjusts the lever reach.

From a bit of googling the 445 levers seem to not be removable, guess the thinking is that one would just swap out the whole brake set.

As long as the brakes work, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If there are any sharp bits that irritate you, file them smooth. If there are any glaring silver marks on your levers that stand out, go get yourself (Or send you girlfriend/wife) a bottle of black nail varnish or if you can lay your hands on black touch up paint even better. If you are a tight arse, a permanent marker will also work.

Nobody is going to mark you down for that. If those marks are from crashing, it means that you are trying hard enough ;)

Yeah, I googled this myself and couldn't find anything. Will check it out and see what can be done, not the end of the world like Grebel said. Just scary to think if the lever breaks you can' replace it haha

You need to bin it in a big way to break a lever on an MTB. I can count the number of lever break stories that I have heard on one hand.... MX bike on the other hand......

EDIT: Although now that I have posted that, I am sure there will be 100 people that are going to prove me wrong :D

I've seen many a bent brake lever. It's an unlucky landing more than a massive stack.
