Uhm... stupid question, what's the real improvement over wearing a good/newish tech helmet?

If they had to do the same tests, would there be any real benefit?

The benefit i'd really wish for is a reduction in concussions. Concussions, which despite the MTB badge of honor its considered to be, is really really really bad. Current lids only protect against major head trauma, but concussions are the diabetes of head injuries. Insidious stuff.

That makes sense, but then... do you recon a trade-off between the better concussion protection but probably worse trauma protection vs. a conventional lid?

In an urban setting with provision for mass transit via bicycle, the average speed should be low enough to reduce the risk of major head trauma.

For MTB and road racing, that is cycling with intrinsically rough terrain and/or higher speeds, the risk for major trauma obviously increases. Thereforey I thought the two in combination could go a very long way to reducing both typical facial injuries, as well as provide concussion prevention/migitation previously unobtainable through the standard means of head protection, ie the cycling helmet.

Seems to deploy even for a simple fall, like falling over because you couldn't clip out. MTB sees possibly multiple little falls in a single outing. I do see how for road or commuting it could work nicely.
