Shimano M445 Hydraulic brake not responding

Do it yourself, easy peasy. Go to Tool-up cycles or any shop and ask them to lend you a "bleed block" and buy some Shimano mineral oil.

Get 2x 10cc plastic syringes from a pharmacy and a meter of fishtank tubing. Then do as in the video below:

The good old syringe method, yes it works till the bleeder pushes the seals beyond the pistons.

That's why Shimano went this way (the video couldn't explain it better) :

Dont think you doin it wrong its just that it is a ghetto bleed...I do it myself too....BUT

there are some membranes in the caliper internals...squeezing too hard on the syringe if you are in a hurry will pop these membranes and then the whole thing is fubar...

The pressure I am referring to will be from your thumb on the syringe plunger....a sign that you have cocked up your brakes is that after a bleed and ride there will be oil leaking from you caliper...Gooi weg

Correct.

Everything is easy peasy, is it always correct ?

Now that is the question.

I never mentioned pressing fluid through the system with the syringe..... :whistling:

I usually thread one syringe into the lever bleed port (instead of the funnel) and then connect the other syringe to a length of fishtank tubing connected to the caliper bleep nipple to act like a reservoir for the oil leaving the system (I attach it open-end up to a vertical tube such as my work stand. This makes it easy to recover the oil to re-use in a future bleed.)

No, but I guarantee you someone will do it.

You're not wrong!

That said, I love how easy Shimano (and Tektro) brakes are to bleed.

All the American videos and documentation say to clean up with rubbing/isopropyl alcohol. What do you use Wyatt? I use windowlene......works like a charm.

I have been castigated by the old Oom a few times for being lazy in this regard but there are 2 things I have not bothered to learn how to do and just pass on to my LBS as they have the expertise and the right tools.

Fork services and brake bleeding, purely based on how rarely I actually need them to be done and the fact that it really doesn't cost that much. I reckon I have not had brakes bled more than 5 or 6 times in all my years of riding and 1 or 2 of those were to shorten or lengthen hoses ....

You could of course just remove the lever pistons and calipers (gooi hulle weg) and replace with Avid Elixirs

Keep the rotors.

(you did not think that someone was NOT going to post this)

Remember Avids ARE servicable unlike some other makes.

You drive an alfa don't you?

Life's too short to sukkel with avids...there is consensus wrt to this.

The purple stuff, but no through bread first.

Consensus in 2 camps, one pro and one anti. Not sure of that counts as consensus though, more like an open war

IPA tastes far better with Coke though... even if you've filtered the purple stuff...

Right, eventually took the bike to epic sports (nice guys there!).

It seems my brake is leaking, and they suspect its at the O ring.

Is this something you fix or replace?

If you need to replace is there a newer model brake that will fit?

Yea, any model Avid will be an upgrade!! :whistling:

Unable to tell if that was a joke or not?

My whole 6 posts should give you an idea of my cycling knowledge

Sorry, JOKE.

referring to the hot debate about which is best, Shimano (what you use for fishing :whistling: ) or Sram / Avid.
