Easton ea70 xtc tubeless conversion leaking help

Recommended Posts

I just the the tubeless conversion on my new mtb.

however i am struggling to get the wheels to properly hold air.

i have sealant running out of the 2 holes in the sides of the rim and around the valve.

a bit of shaking solved the issue but it keeps springing a leak.

using stans sealant

i opted not to use rim tape due to the "welded rims"

can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks

You "opted not to use tape?"

Dof option.

You took half a solution. Not clever.

Moving on...

Leave the wheels in the sun for a few mins. Stans loves heat to be able to seal properly. Once warm from the sun, shake around to get the juice flowing (after you've pumped them up hard).

They will seal nice and proper.

Add another 60ml a few days later as a top up

surely if they are fully welded there is no need for tape as the welded rim acts as rim tape??

make sure that you shake your bottle of sealant well before using - you may have only decanted the liquid portion of the stans into your tires leaving the grains behind that seal up the niggly leaks. Also make sure you haven't over tightened the nut on your tubeless valve.

Don't need rim tape for those rims. I have the same ones but I didn't fit the tyres. Can't recall seeing holes but maybe I should have a closer look.

Gave the bottle a good shake before adding anything

i also used nearly double the recommended amount to help with the initial sealing

i did tighten the nut on the tubeless valve pretty tight come to think of it, but finger tight (as tight as i could)

What is the 'welded' speel on that blurb?

Do they have spoke holes from the inside?

there are no spoke holes on the inside of the rim

basically the inner rim looks like this:

have a look on the side walls,

there is a tiny hole on either side of them

The only way the sealant can come of the holes on the sides of the rim is if it is getting past the valve stem. Tighten the valve stem properly, give it a few turns with a pliers.
