That would mean you have to do the stretch past the grave yard?

I would also avoid that stretch past Wing-field .....

yes, Why? have you ridden there before? Those of us that live in Goodwood. when returning from an outing out to Town, Camps Bay side we would regularly take this stretch home. Only when going out would sometimes take the back route via Thornton-Pinelands, which is also an option from Obs.

Plumstead/Wynberg commute to Century City? Is anyone doing this already and or keen to start a bike bus?

I have done one or two days in the past from Plumstead to Century City ?

Which route would you go ? I am keen to try again depends on time of day.

Need a reason to force me to leave work on time and not be stuck late.

Hi Guys ... the N7 crossing 5days a week morning, and evening is bit ruff.

I have also been thinking about something like this .... I just don't know what to do about the Woodstock bridge crossing?

Used to cycle past there a couple (good couple) of years ago. Recon this is a possible high risk section at the Grave Yard for a bike mugging.

The Wing-Field stretch used to be a daily slog for me .... with too many close calls with trucks.

Would rather try and get into Good wood proper via the following

  • down Voortrekker past the Grave Yard (Still your quickest option)
  • (REST AS PER YOUR MAP)
  • left down Kimberly (Riding parralel to Wing-Field, and cutting a dangerous road out)
  • right onto Milton
  • left onto Giel Basson
  • right onto Frans Conradie
  • all the way to Carl Cronje Drive and into the "office area" at Tyger Valley

That is a nice route with extra mileage ... RE the dodgy woodstock section .... leave earlier and just wait for other riders to come along.

sorry, just to add, been some time since I have done the Grave Yard Drag ... is there any yellow shoulder yet, and how are cars on this stretch?

Thank you for your help guys .... another hubber just pm'd me ... he takes a route from Mowbray to Tygervalley nearly daily ... I'm going to try and join him for the commute.

Thank you for all your advice ... really glad I enquired here      :D

for the intended direction i.e. towards Goodwood, I reckon the cars are fine, no yellow line but the road is wide enough.

thanks to the world wide web and that thing called google earthingie, I was able to revisit the houses I grew up in in Good Wood and surrounds .... of the houses look unchanged, part for a bit of landscaping and minors like paint, etc .... and others are completely different. Got to see the park we spent most of our free time in playing sport and getting into trouble in.

I see the old Dojo is vacant and up for rent.

My great Grannies house could do with a little TLC.

Primary school looks good.

Better to go all the way along Kimberly street then Townsend Street into Frans Conradie. Giel basson does not have much space for cyclist

I would alter my route slightly if I were you.  Rather avoid the stretch on Stormvoel and cross under the highway earlier and go through the Waverly suburn and then go down Codonia.  Just a thought.

Anyone interested in going from Southern Suburbs (Rondebosch/Newlands) to Cape Town (Sea Point or City) on any weekday evenings leaving around 5.30pm?

Or going the reverse in the mornings leaving around 6am?

Happy to do mtb or road but preference would prob be mtb to stay off the roads as it's all in the dark at the moment...

Looking to commute from Plumstead to Paarden Eiland. Was thinking of going Hout Bay - Camps Bay - Town - Paarden Eiland. Thoughts?

Have to leave fairly early to get to work by 7.30am
