I ride large sections of the 110km route almost every weekend with my training rides and honestly be prepared for the wind once past karee kloof, there is no shelter in sight and it almost always blows cross wind through there heading into henley. and then head or tail wind from henley to finish. Lets hope for tail this year but highly unlikely.

I hope they have fixed the pothole just as we make the right turn off verwoerd road heading back towards the red and white towers... real nasty section of road

Hmmm....after last year's "hell in the wind", I swore I would never put myself through this race again....I'm so confilcted!

Same here. Was my first full distance race, what a sufferfest. If lost city and d2d are anything to go by the wind's not going to be any better this year. And that gravel stretch is nasty too.

I did this last year, uneventful for the most part but the wind was a factor as others have mentioned...am lined up to do it again come sunday....looking forward to it....looking at the weather forecast its going to be windy ...again lol

My first time doing this race... So how bad is it

Last year was my first time doing R4V...

:w00t: = FIRST 50km    yeeeehaaaaaa...

:cursing: = Last 60km   what the FUDGE   that wind was hectic as hell  :cursing:

My worst EVER race...my 2013 D2D was okay...but this one killed from where you turn Right onto the road to Vereeniging going home...hope and pray we have wind like yesterday

Not to worry.  The wind blows for everyone.  We will all suffer, just stay in the group, do your turn at the front, and you wont even notice the wind

VASBYT !!!

Usually do the smaller distances, thinking of R4V being my first 110km... what sort of ascent is to be expected?

Not much climbing, no real hills.

Wind is worse than any climb.

Good race to do though.

Hardest climbing is inside the first 20km give or take... Lido hotel to walkerville.

Then a bit to test the legs on the road past karree kloof before it kicks up at the end quite a bit when going out towards heidelberg before making the right turn to come back towards henley.

The wind is going to be the hardest part of the race more than the climbing.

Lets hope the forcast changes by sunday

This was supposed to be my prep for the amashova but it looks like I will be doing the amashova as a social ride as I am just to freaken busy at work at the moment to get to gym during the week or just to cycle....
