Do you think the attacker was waiting there for you or it was more of an opportunistic attack?

Definately waiting there.More then 6 options to take as a getaway into the cane.Leave the bike somewhere in the cane and return at night to collect.

So sorry to hear man. I cant tell from the map- is that at the bottom of Compendium Climb? I was riding through there this morning!

After com climb there is single track following the road. After a sharp corner you climb up to the back end of the jockey academy.

Sadly KZN is catching up with the countrywide trend.

That area is also close to a tar road so a stolen bike can be easily loaded into a waiting vehicle.

Might be worth while speaking to guys at Giba to see if they can find out anything - they have a very good relationship with the local community in the area.

This is probably a stupid question but are the local SAPS taking it seriously?

These scumbags seem to pick area's which are popular with cyclists, but relatively quiet (i.e. if they wait 20 mins or so a cyclist will come along) - with an easy get away.

Wow that's a lot more than I thought there were up there - I have spent some quality time at Cascades and surrounds.

You are right about sharing the information  - the more people post information - the better informed we are and the better choices we can make.

I posted about my incident on the KZN danger area thread and sadly someone was stabbed in almost the exact same spot some six weeks later. So we also need to check the relevant posts on a regular basis as well.

maybe i'm over-exaggerating the numbers a bit....but its more than it should be. we had an incident about 2 or 3 weeks ago where three bikes were jacked on 2 separate occasions at a spot that was part of my regular training route right by cascades. I think up here its still opportunistic as opposed to planned though.

Sadly its probably an under estimation - there are a lot of people who ride and don't come onto to the hub or their experiences don't make it into the news so we don't hear about it. See the articles below.

In the Witness article they mention a truck that was stopped and found to be filled with bike parts and a raid in which 50 high end bikes were discovered.
