Which Road bike for +/-60K?

Hi, 

 

Please assist. I am in the market for a new road bike with a budget of R 60,000.  

 

I currently ride an R3 which is great. I have not ridden any of the below and am basing my choice on looks, reviews and popularity. I ride most races and cover approx 200 to 250 km per week with the intention of being socially competitive.

 

I am considering:

 

Specialized Venge Pro Race, which comes with Ultegra 6800 and Roval Rapide carbon 60mm clinchers @ R64999

 

Specialized Tarmac Pro Race, which comes with Ultegra 6800 and Roval Rapide carbon 40mm clinchers @ R64999

 

Also considering

 

A Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Think 2, with Ultegra 6800 and Scirocco wheels @ 67k

 

Other frames I like are the Look, Bianchi Oltre and Cervelo R5 but may have to look for a good second hand deal given my budget. I know there are other frames to consider like Scott, Merida etc, but my heart is leaning towards those listed.

 

I see from other posts that one should test ride these bikes and form their own decision but is not always possible?

 

Your advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance

All that I can say is that I love my Venge but any of the above bikes are worth it. Had my dilemma 6 months ago. God luck

You can get a lot more bike 2nd hand for R60k but that's if you don't mind going down that road.

Da Rosa?  Condor? the list of bikes is kinda endless when you hit 60K limite, and the best is that at that price mark you can IMPORT directly from niche (Boutique) manufacturers and have something very special

Indeed, 2nd hand is certainly good value when the right deal comes around...

 

Had a look at the Bianchi Oltre listed in the classified which was a thorough bread racing machine! Concerned about the maintenance cost of the Campy SR EPS groupset. But a lovely bike...

 

Leaning towards the Venge But a bit concerned about the 60mm deep sections with the wind.

I guess I have gone for the brands I know and prefer. Eddy Merkx and Da Rosa have some great bikes but as you say, the list becomes long unless you narrow it down. If you could list the niche manufactures, i will certainly consider it... thanks!

No Cannondale?

 

No disrespect to Cannondale, they too have some amazing bikes! But Cannondale and other great bikes like Giant, Focus, Fondriest, Trek etc have never been my "I want one" bike... So now that I can splash out a bit, I'd like to go with one that i'm passionate about, namely Cervelo, Specialized, Bianchi, Pinarello and Look.

Parlee is pretty exclusive but then you'll only get the frame.
