MTB Trails app for smart phones

That interface looks like something straight out of Windows 95. The Explore function on Strava works pretty well although I suppose it doesn't give you details of the trails like where to sign in and pricing, etc. I assume this app does?

I know of someone who is building a similar app, but with more functionality as to details, reviews, lbs locations, hospitals and contact details etc etc

...should be launched soon  ;)

I don't even bother with Strava, too much KOM-competitive oriented.

Could not find the "explore" option on Strava - unless it is part of the "premium" (ie, register / pay for the app)?

On your phone app use the drop down menu (top left) and segment explore is there.

Sho.. The info for a few local trails I just checked is rather out dated i.e. route map, pricing, etc.

Would be a nice (if not great looking) app if it was maintained.

Afaik, the "segment explorer" of Strava on my iPhone shows me only 8 trails in my area (and I know for a fact that there are actually 27 trails as I have ridden some of them) - all those 8 "trails" are merely KOM's, which I don't even bother.

I like the idea of where the hospital is in relation to where you are...we all know I need that one ;)

Keep us up to speed on the development (maybe features planned and whether test users are needed etc) and the release date.

Have you zoomed in on the map?

If I look at the Tokai area it shows two or three but as I zoom in more and More pop up.

I did, Marko, I did and it still is the same: Strava KOM's.

I stay right next to the famous G-Spot trail in Stellenbosch and know for a fact that it is actually a 5km long trail from the bottom (at street level) to the top of hill, connecting to another trail in a T-intersection that goes around the mountain towards Coetzenburg / Jonkershoek (to the left), and towards Blaauwklippen / Helderberg (to the right).

But all the Strava segment shows is just a 2km piece (the bottom half of the G-Spot trail, which has rollers / bumps, and berms) - a LOT of people, including famous ones like Eric Kleinhans and Sauser Christoph, use that piece of section to compare their times.

Even the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve (a favourite amongst MTB riders) are splitted up in KOM's, never mind how many trails it has.

Another reason why I don't use Strava is because people tend to abuse KOM's for their ego's or just for spite....I have even seen some folks actually ride a section with scooters, just to get their names at the top, and to beat everyone's times.

Coincidentally, I joined "The Hub SA" Strava section (in December 2014), to get an idea of where everyone rides (not caring about their times) and guess what did I see?

Notice the "record" someone, in ranking #1 position, made.... (I have PS'ed his/her name out for sanity sake)

I accidentally pushed the run button without knowing it on my cycling strava in December. I now have one running entry where I am nu 1.

I don't know where to change it, I am quite a nut with strava. I only track my rides during holidays so that in future a can see what rides I did and I can do them again.

Maybe the guy got on a plane and forgot to stop his strava.

Hmm maybe in a plane? Did you check his route out?
