This from the station who sponsors the largest road race in Joburg. Stupid!

So a cyclist being run over with by a taxi with a screaming passenger is what Joburg is all about?

I'm afraid as much as I would like to disagree the reality of the situation is that this is exactly what Joburg is like at the moment and it is in no way a joke.

Many a truth said in jest...

This is our reality, and the winner captured it perfectly.

Is it jarring? Yes

Offensive? Ya, to some

Should we all be lynching him and 94.7? I don't think so.

He may even be a cyclist ?!

I have to agree with the fact that it is a satirical look at life in Jozi, however sad that may be. The fact that it offends people is a good thing, the fact that it pulls on some emotional strings is also a good thing. Bottom line is...does it piss you off that the artist depicts it or does it piss you off that this is in fact reality in the city? So imo the artist has got this spot on, whether or not it was intention is irrelevant, the fact that its ridiculously bad design is also irrelevant ...he got us talking! I do however think that 94,7 may have shot themselves in the foot on this one 'heartbeat of the city' more like the city needs a triple bypass and they as a voice should be doing something about it!!!

Does not matter how you look at it, it is reallity and has become an extremely sensitive issue. If we don't get taken out by vehicles who drives recklessly by speeding, driving while intoxicated, driving on the side of the road on the rim to get past traffic jams and then push in at the front, reading news papers or maps while driving, and then big one, driving while using their mobile devices, we also get taken out by bike jackers when we try to avoid the roads. Where does 947 promote safe cycling the other 364 days of the year after they have milked us for our hard earned cash? So in fact, it's no laughing matter. The joke is on them now, Joburg's "biggest" cycle race got smaller.

This is a pic that should've done email rounds amongst those who thought it was funny and deciding to send it on to mates who shared their sense of humour.

As an entity that essentially brings together communities in a geographical location by the nature of what they do, 94.7 has managed to alienate cyclists, wildlife conservationists, taxi drivers and any person of colour who chooses to see the animal reference with deciding that this entry was eligible in the first place. Even I see the satire in this, but more so see how inappropriate it is to promote Lead SA and other community based initiatives so ardently and then allow this to win the competition as the representation of their brand!

This is the creator of this "Winning" photo:

Clearly this person (creator of this image) is not a cyclist, and he's just doing this image just to win the prize. (and not really have any regards to cyclist's life in general)

Agreed.

We were discussing it on our ride this morning.

His logic might have been "I have to hit a target market for votes"

He was unsure if the cyclists or the ant-cyclists would vote, for him it was a 50/50 hit rate.

What he didn't bank on was the fact that like he himself, most people hate cyclists being on the roads and see them as a nuisance .

Artist ?

More like opportunist with bad editing skills that failed to recall that the giraffe incident took place in Pretoria .

Apart from the fact that it looks like a 7 year old got a free copy of Photoshop express and his mockery of a cycling accident how can he and 947 expect to get away with that depiction of a taxi driver in SA.

If someone tweets that to Cosatu or the EFF 947 would be apologising until Christmas.

No matter how pretty you try and paint it, there is no joke or mockery about cyclists being mowed down by vehicles.

Nobody makes a mockery of cancer.

It's a picture it can be interpreted many different ways but you're saying the way everyone here has interpreted it is the only possible way. And I mock cancer all the time.

Considering I have cancer I think I'm pretty free to mock it as much as I like. I don't feel very tough at all but you're welcome to sort me out after my next radiation session, I normally feel a little woozy after 30 minutes of getting microwaved in the head. Meet me at Sandton Oncology any morning of the week and punch the skinny guy.

Actually my biggest gripe about the whole cancer thing is having to commute to Sandton through that traffic. I'd much rather do it on my bike but I'm terrified of being hit by taxis or texting drivers. Maybe that's why this guys picture resonates with me.
