I sure hope you are right!

My heart says Porte, head says the beef tainted beef eating Spanish druggie and I have a sneaky suspicion that Aru could shock a few people (in a good way)...

The problem with Aru is stage 14. He can't time trial to save his life. He could lose 4 minutes to Porte / Uran on that day alone if he's not 100% on top of his game.

Giro d’Italia’s dramatic bike path time trial

The Giro d’Italia has previously raced on gravel roads, planks and islands, but when the 2015 race starts on Saturday in Liguria it will be the first time the organiser has run a stage on a bike path.

The Italian Riviera will host the opening stage, a team time trial, from San Lorenzo al Mare to San Remo on bike paths that it created from abandoned railway lines. The Riviera dei Fiori bike path will span 60 km when completed.

The Liguria region is using the Giro’s start partly to promote cycling. It hosts the first four stages, but the first one, a 17.6 km team time trial, is the only one on a bike path.

Hesjedal on the Giro d'Italia: I back myself

“I’m not riding the Giro to shoot for fortieth,”

“If I look at 2012, when I won and at 2013, before I got sick and had to quit, and in 2014 considering the situation then, I believe I can be up there this year. I’ve got the experience and everything has gone well so far this season. I’m ready for the challenge. There are a lot of great riders in the Giro but we’ve all got to get through the race and see the final result in Milan. I back myself.”

Looking at the favorite list I really do not see anybody touching Contador in the GC :whistling:

I totally agree...

Porte is super strong yes and Aru has youth but Contador is a true stage racer and knows how to win a tour. It all depends how hes feeling seeing that hes leaving something for the TDF!

I'm not a big fan of Contador, but really can't see anybody challenge him.

I just hope this doesn't become a boring one-horse-race.

yeah.... well im the biggest fan and i dont see him loosing this one... depending on what happens offcourse, anyway i would like a close contest anyday ! I also wouldnt like a one-horsed race!

Sadly i think this is Contadors last grand tour victory (if all goes well)... dont see him taking the double and cant see him getting better in the next few seasons, to me it seems hes lost that "special spark" to truly attack when he does.

Contador the great!

Uran is arguably the best TTer of the favourites, alongside Katusha's Zakarin who is a national champ from 2013 if I'm correct.

Must say most of the guys are keeping their GC form close to their chest.

Intriguing.

I've heard 'Berto has an interesting strategy to only peak in week 3 when the high mountains come.

Also, of course, not overcooking himself so he can recover optimally for le Tour.

What an awesome double attempt.

I think all Contadors contenders aim to peak at the crucial stages...

With Quintano anf Vroomie not taking part I don't see anyone challenging him to the extent he would be challenged in July, so ja he might be able to recover sufficiently.

Go Porte and that other skinny dude...ridersdale or something like that

Will be a bleak year imo if he manages to win both.

Anyways, 3 weeks of giro to flow under the bridge first...

He probably lost that special spark, cause he stopped eating contaminated meat

I'll rather have Contador when any race than Froome, so hopefully he saves something for the TDF.

I'm looking forward to a closely contested TDF with Froome, Nibali, Quintana, Contador. Pitty the Shlecks couldn't live up to their promise.

But now its Giro time. :w00t:

The only time of the year that I'll been seen wearing pink. I bought this shirt if 2010, in Amsterdam, in the week leading up to the opening stage of the Giro that year (it started in Amsterdam).

This photo (#selfie) was taken a year ago today...
