Hi guys,

So first off and to set the stage, I'm a newcomer to the sport of cycling and, I'm really enjoying it.

After hitting some trails around cape town and learning the bunny hop etc, I'm hooked!

ROFL!

So back to the topic.

Spoiler alert: This is guna get real, but I'm concerned about injuring my private parts.

After doing some googling, sure there are many indications, linking reproductive injury to cycling and that literally scares the crud out of me.

The fact that this sport is so popular, growing and there are many long term cyclists, make me think there are practacle and effective ways at enjoying the sport whilst protecting the body.

If I could bother you all for some advice in this regards, it would be much appreciated.

Since I have so little experience, and contact with people in the know, I need to turn to a community as accessible as this one.

Many thanks!!

+1 to all above.

Check your siting bones, on a "assometer" in a specialized shop. You might need a wider saddle than the original.

Also the angle of the saddle is quite important.

And a couple more -

1) get your bike professionally fitted.

2) don't wear underwear under your cycling shorts.

3) go on a skills course - or 3... on the basis that prevention is better than treatment...

Nice first post....

Reminds me of a dude from years back...posting about the saddle sore and the whole process of personal hygiene down under.... was quite hillarious...

Anyways - besides the saddle damaging the crown jewels...there is also the option of having them ripped during a unplanned dismount!  google it...ONLY if you can stomach it...

Other that that...my family is complete thank you...no need to preserve 'em nuts!! :whistling:

I'm with Cassie on this.  No need for the nuts anymore so if they should get damaged in a crash......Tatta tatta.

Thank said, I have been cycling for 20 years now with no injuries in that region. Road and MTB.
