SANS Parks Tokai MTB price increase

Cant we get a group together to take over Tokai or more specifically the hiking/horse mtb Part of it.

Kick san parks out and maintain whatever needs to be maintained with takings from the gate!

I know its more easier said than done, but surely there must be a way in which a group can take over from them

Aside from a order of court, don't think that that'll ever be allowed to happen from SAN Parks side. However much we'd might want to do so. Would be helpful if one of Pain, Mayhem or Omega could comment on this. But I suspect this would be a no go.

Edit: I see Omega has commented.

That's a great idea but sadly I doubt that could even materialize.

I imagine we'd have to negotiate some sort of long term lease. Sanparks won't even give that horrible coffee shop a lease longer than a year.

Remember it's first and foremost a conservation area. Add to that the various user groups who all want access. And in a lot of cases exclusive access. Us included. Then there's the cost of the lease. As a business Tokai is terrible. You'd have to spend hundreds of thousands upgrading the trails and other infrastructure to the point where it could legitimately compete with the Jonkershoeks of the world.

Their revenue collection is abysmal and the culture of non payment/bribing the oke at the gate is so prevalent that people speak openly about it on this forum. Safety is also a huge problem

I don't know about you but I'd never get involved in something like that.

I can understand all of the concerns, but lets talk about the car park area, the restaurant etc. If it were to be managed by another group, and overseen by whoever, but this group will be allowed to improve access control, by maybe having a gate at the parking and be allowed to do maintanance etc. Broken fencing and conservation can be seen to by san parks. Surely there must be some recipe that will work. I logically see it from a mtb point of view, but there is no reason to get horse, running and hiking clubs involved.

I'm just speaking off the top of my head here. Don't quote me.

I'd say, contact the MTB Forum and request that they take the permit issue up with San Parks on behalf of the cycling community. That is, after all, is part of what the Forum is mandated to do.

Sorry but I think CB would swallow SAN Parks BS the way Bicycling did. [emoji185]

I just got a email from a friend of a friend...

"Well done to to SAN Parks in raising the day permits fee and about time too. It really irks me to see the type of Riff Raff that the park attracts lately and I hope that this will deter them from visiting it in the future. As you know my estate is nearby and I there just too many of these testosterone bike types on the road. I just wish they raise the price even more and it may even the deter the middle class plebs from Meadowridge or Diepriver.

Yours Reginald"

Might be a hint of sarcasm in there.... but you never know

Hard to say Flowta......... but I think that in this instance it may be safer to take this email at face value. Us cyclists aren't everyone's favorite people.
