anyone want to draw up a petition letter regarding the safe cycling awereness signs?

WANT THE BEST POSSIBLE WORDING THAT MAKES IT SOUND TOO GOOD TO IGNORE.

No petitions will make the roads safer, in fact it only adds to a false sense of safety, inclining to people thinking the roads are safer when it is not. Be realistic about this, peoples lives are at stake, riding bicycles on SA roads is extremely dangerous and the only way to be safe is not to ride on the roads.

The petition is intended to mobilize the support and advocacy process for "popular cycling route" sign boards to be pinned on the D Ville roads

Be realistic about this, peoples lives are at stake, riding bicycles on SA roads is extremely dangerous and the only way to be safe is not to ride on the roads.

Not riding on roads will cost a huge amount to build in the 1st place and while that is being done people still have to get to work. Yes not everyone on the road is training. For MANY it is a their ONLY transport.

 

I think that Signs is a good idea, and especially if there is a drive to inform motorist that we HAVE to be on the road according to law.

 

Motorists do not understand that cyclist are NOT allowed to ride on the pavement/sidewalk? I think the 1.5m drive should also be running hand in hand with another slogan informing Motorists that it is a law for cyclist to ride on the road etc. Many of my family members have asked me "why do you cyclist ride in the road, and slow us down. You should not be on the road" 

 

Then I have to explain to them the law, and that is why I think PPA should do more education rather than just do the 1.5m thing

WE NEED TO BE MORE VISIBLE, AND CYCLE WITH CAUTION AND OBEY THE RULES OF THE ROAD AT ALL TIMES. STOP AT STOPS STREETS AND RED LIGHTS, KEEP TO THE LEFT OF YELLOW LINES AS WELL AS SINGLE FILE. (YES WE ALL LIKE TO CHAT WHILST CYCLING). WE CANT EVEN GET IT RIGHT TO STAY WITHIN THE WHITE LINE AS PER LAST WEEKS ONE TONNER. GROUPS WERE RIDING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WHITE LINE IN THE PATH OF ONCOMMING TRAFFIC.  WE ALL LIKE TO COMPLAIN AND RANT AND RAVE AT OTHERS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THE SITUATION. TAKE THIS COMMING SUNDAYS MEMORIAL RIDE, MADE 10 CALLS THE THE TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT FOR 1 TRAFFIC OFFICER JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ALL CROSS THE BOULEVARD SAFELY. SORRY NO CAN DO. WE WILL BE MAKING SURE THAT WE DO IT OURSELVES. LEKKER TO JUST MOAN AND LET SOMEONE ELSE PUT HIS HAND UP SO THAT WE CAN BITE IT OFF.

Agree, but technically we should not ride to the left of the yellow line (if you want to obey ALL the laws)

Jip, agree. That is another topic for the motorists to moan about. As if we made the rules. They forget that we also own and drive vehicles.

The standard Red Triangle warning sign with the bicycle inside is an official road sign. All we ask is for more to be erected where cyclists ride/train often.

Don't want to hijack the thread but..

 

This morning I was racing the 90km Durbie Dash, finishing 8 minutes behind the winner. Tonight I'm lying in the critical care heart unit of Panorama, getting a "little procedure" tomorrow as well as finding out if I will ever cycle properly again.

 

When Im tempted to throw myself a little pity party I remind myself that Johan probably would have loved to trade places with me.

 

Will have to miss tomorrow's memorial ride but Johan & family will be in my thoughts.

attended the memorial ride for johan this morning. so sad and such an unnecessary accident. i really feel for his young family :-(
